    Happy Birthday indeed!

Thank you for the good wishes everyone. You do realize Earl got me the best present though. :D

I hope the photos give everyone what they're looking for so far. I hope to do some more, such as screen shots, etc. once I get the chance to hook this puppy up.

    Happy Birthday! :)

Mine's installed and booting up. On Step 2 of 2 at 82% :D

EDITED TO ADD: I'm playing with it now. Interesting quirk: mine came preset with a CA zip code (not surprising) but was also setup for 3-LNB dish. Anyway it's up and running now.

Second interesting quirk: my sat signal strengths are about 2 - 3 points higher on many transponders than they usually are with the HR20. It's 101 degrees outside and about 50% humidity. Usually the haze would knock me down a few points, but I show 10 transponders at 100 on 101 when I normally would have three or four. And most of the rest are upper 90's. :)

Did you guys have a separate envelope with the access card or did you remove it to look at it? Mine came pre-installed in the box, just FYI.

    Thanks.

I plan to photograph the signal levels when I get installed so I can compare with the photos I already took of my HR20.
It was already in the slot installed.

One more wish for a happy birthday hdtvfan0001! Good idea about the signal levels. I'll take some pics and post too.

Happy Birthday, hdtvfan0001! May you enjoy the experience of the new toy for quite some time. No get back to work--playing with the HR21, of course! :)

    Cheers,
    Tom

Done with work for now, family dinner at a friend's house. That's okay. Time to let the guide populate.

Mine was in the slot also. The zip code was set to 11111 and the dish to 3-LNB. It skipped the guided setup and went straight to live TV. The first press of the guide did give the one-time message about the changes for the new sats.

Someone (Chris B?) was talking about the card maybe being too long because the door wouldn't close. I found that the door fits pretty tight and is harder to close than the HR20. The card is inserted far enough, at least in mine.

There is a difference in closing the door with and without the card. It's pretty tight either way, but you do have to force it more with the card in there. I have to work a little bit to get it to close with the card. Definitely looks like a slight design flaw.

Mine was already configured with a 90xxx zip code with 3 LNB.

The card was about 1/16 to long. My paper cutter took care of that. It's not so much as the card was to long, it just stuck out to far. The card is the exact same size as previous cards.

When I had it apart I check to see if the mainboard could be moved back. No joy. It's as far back as its going to go. So that leaves the card holder itself. Either the cardhold has something that is not letting the card go in that last little bit, or its just not far enough back on the mainboard.

Mine arrived just after 2 PM. I was about to leave and was glad I was still there, since the FedEx driver wanted a signature.

Mine was personalized with my name handwritten on a label in the top right corner. Someone at DIRECTV has good handwriting. ;)

    Hah, yes of course. :)

And as far as the card changing or not it has. It is now a "K" card whereas the last cards were "D2" cards.
