It is good you found a native 4K production. Too many 4K presentations are 1080P or less with the color depth and bandwidth allotted being the biggest difference between "normal" HD and the 4K broadcast. Fox being 720p HD, having "4K" presentations in 1080P HDR is an improvement.

BTW: I don't care what the crowd is drinking. I tuned in for the game. And while I understand that is just an example of picture sharpness, I wouldn't watch a bad game in 4K just to see the sharpness. (Although in the early days of HD I watched an hour of hockey because I was amazed I could see the puck!)

The service has gone up and down so first thing I do when the plate is delivered is I check the temperature while the server is still present and will return it if not hot. Maybe 10% of the time the food is cold so that is a ratio I can deal with. If it was 50% I would depart as a customer. But they have continued to raise prices and I still go back because other restaurants have also raised their prices. But when they changed the recipe for their Cobb salad two years ago I stopped ordering any salad main dish there.

I guess my point is as long as the problems occur only sporadically I will continue to patronize a vendor. In the case of D* the CSR's service and knowledge level has declined dramatically since switched to ATT. I have an owned receiver that I would like to activate for a month or two while we have visitors that I cannot due to policy changes. I am also afraid to make any changes for fear that they will screw up some other part of my account. But just like you I follow live sports and the streaming alternatives do not include my team the Lakers so I stay with D*. i like to go back 6 seconds on my DVR and replay sports plays and the virtual DVR on the streamers have an unacceptable time lag. I also think the price gap between D* and streamers is narrowing so price is not a factor for me (D*continues to give me an annual discount when I ask for it).

No, he clearly said that he would not continue frequenting a place after repeated mistakes and incompetence. But not after just one screw-up on an issue.

I've been with DIRECTV non-stop since '95 and definitely no fan-boy, especially after the AT&T takeover. But admittedly had occasional missed installation appointments or techs showing up with an incorrect work order before AT&T took-over.

And I just patiently reschedule (or cancel and reschedule) and it always worked the second time around (for me anyway).

There's always Reddit streams and other sources on the interwebs for must-see games. I'm sure I'll have to give up some content.
The fact that we're done with football will make things easier for now.

There was a period of a couple of years where it seems there were four or five members that were all using this forum as a way to try and get a job with Directv and no one could have an differing opinion without their mob coming after you. Haven't seen most of those members in years.

Always schedule morning appointments, preferably the very first one. An important lesson I've learned through the years of degrading service levels.

When these conversations begin I always think of russdog and the eSATA thread he created. We spent a lot of time working on devices that could be used and one day he made the mistake of moderating (to a slight extent) his own thread. Good guy, all he wanted to do was keep that thread focused on the eSATA function. He was bullied so badly he just disappeared. All that work and he just disappeared. Always bothered me.

One more time: Somebody wants to come here and express an opinion that resonates with some of us should be able to do that without being bullied...I think.

That's true about most appointments. Afternoon appointments tend to be evening appointments.

    1) you really think DirecTV reads this forum?
    2) if they did read it, which they don't, you really think they'd use it to recruit people?
    3) if you want to work for DirecTV, why wouldn't you just apply on the web site?
    4) if DirecTV does use this forum to recruit people to chase off haters, how much does it pay?

People come up with the most ridiculous conspiracy theories.

No, what he wrote happened. Nothing ridiculous about it. Two members were hired by D* at that time.

The best rule is not to talk about people ... whether or not they are or were members of this forum.

There are people who I would not mind seeing return ... those with good information and a good attitude towards others. One thing I have learned in my 17 years here is that no poster is required to respond to any specific message. People who act as if it is their life mission to defend a provider are likely to have problems having a "good attitude toward others". Learning not to respond to every message may take 20 years.

Good information with a good attitude. The best approach.

I pay $80 for 300mps via Comcast. Usually in the 250-700 range.

Actually, two were hired as Rich said....and my post (if you had read it) clearly said "seems" (should have been "seemed").....no conspiracy theory...there were posters, who I'll leave unnamed per James' comments, that made this place very difficult to have open discussion and some very, very good posters were run off. Let's hope it doesn't return to that as there are a few threads where it appears it is.

I do actually remember one guy now... but he was a technical guy who helped a lot of folks. RVD made it sound like there are paid people on here to chase off haters. If you hang out on yahoo finance boards, people say that there all the time. If someone is bullish, they're a paid pumper. If they're bearish they're a paid short lol.

No, that's not what I said or implied. You've misinterpreted almost everything starting with your first response.
I've been on this board long enough (though not active within the last several years) to remember when a few folks here mentioned being hired by DirecTV.
I think a lot of folks here have a fantasy of working for DirecTV (on a corporate level, not as a tecnician) and it clearly shows with their responses.

I do feel I should provide an update:

A technician came by today ON TIME and was very helpful in getting 4K set up at my home.
    Very knowledgeable and professional guy.

I did have to drop the planned disconnection (for now) in order to activate the 4K. It would not activate otherwise.
I will follow up with DirecTV very soon and express some of my displeasure with another CSR who will hopefully be more helpful than the person I encountered over the weekend.
One of those displeasures BTW was DirecTV (I forgot to mention this previously) mysteriously upgrading my protection plan to the Premier plan without my consent.
I only found out by looking at my account online, which I do not do regularly but probably should now.

Aside from the Protection Plan issue I'm glad they finally got everything up and running. TBH I actually agree with your OP about wanting to disconnect originally. After a similar experience with Suddenlink for my mom and grandma (trying to upgrade their archaic DVRs to the TiVo WH-DVRs in 2014 then being told off by a CSR when I called into ask a simple question one year later) I switched my mom and grandma to DirecTV in 2015. If there was another ISP/VOIP provider in the area I would have disconnected the entire account. Now the Suddenlink CSRs are sweet as pie to me when I have to call in on behalf of my mom and grandma for their Internet & Phone.

They did that with me and telling me it gave me a 2 year contract. Reason why I ultimately left and they “waived it.”

After all that's been said and done shouldn't the thread title be changed to "I've Temporarily had it with DirecTV!"
