Her father has talked to her and the doctors and they say she doesn't have any gunshot wounds. Broken arm, both legs broke, and they did surgery on her back today to realign some discs and such.

Doesn't there need to be corroborating eye witness account of the actions, it seems that all here team is either a POW or MIA (Some KIA). That might make it hard to determine what metal to give her???

She has some major recovery time ahead of her. Accident based broken bones are bad enough, but bullet induced broken bones are probably much harder to deal with. If she didn't have enough character before, just recovering probably will give her more.

Errata: It looks like she didn't have bullet wounds according to the link above

I think her father mentioned that she liked that she had a pink colored cast, can't take the Girl out of the Soldier :D

I'm willing to bet that Hollywood tries to make a spectacle out of her, as trying to cast her in a movie. I hope she dosen't do that and she accepts whatever scholarships come her way (I'm sure many schools will be fighting to have her attend) and she becomes that school teacher she wanted to be and that just starts a long and happy life.

I heard that she is actually going to be interviewed tomorrow at 5:00AM ET. I think this is a PVR event and have set mine accordingly. I heard this on Fox News, but suspect it will be carried by all news services.

She did not have any stab or gunshot wounds. She had no feeling in her legs or feet her father says after talking to her on phone. Her parents talked to her before and after surgery and said she is strong and is doing great but it will take time. They decided not to go to Germany to visit her in which is where she is at receiving surgery. She already has undergone one surgery and will have more to come. She has metal plates in her back to realign disks in her back.

She only lives 20 miles from me, is very good looking, and close to my age.

And she could probably beat you up, at least before this experience.

Lol, she might be after all that training but why would she?

I am proud of her thought for what she has done for this country and for how she fought at the last moment with all her might and the last bullets she had left for our country, someone so close to me as well. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Bob Wise, the governor, has made sure she has her college education paid and the school that she had attended says there is a job waiting for her after college to become a school teacher, in which is what she wants to be.

I have a feeling the way this story is being played he may wind up dead in some reprisal. The military should take him and his family an bring them over to the US and put them in the witness protection bureau. His wife is a nurse, we can use her here with the nursing shortage...

Her Purple Heart is pretty much a given even though she may have not suffered bullet or knife wounds. The fact that she had battlefield injuries and was a POW fit the qualifications for the PH. Only proven gross negligence on her part would disqualify the award. I doubt very much if anyone even wants to raise THAT issue in this case.

There need not be direct corroboration for the Bronze Star if the circumstances themselves indicate bravery in the face of the enemy. The Silver Star may require better documentation and direct observation, but I don't know the exact details. It is usually awarded for personal sacrifice made on the battlefield or for saving another soldier in combat.

By the way, the Purple Heart is the oldest military award in this country and one of the oldest existing combat awards in teh world. It was established by General George Washington during the American Revolution.

And while I realize it was a typo, you get the metal (shrapnel) BEFORE you get the medal! :)

I figured the Purple Hearts was a given, was thinking more the Bronze or Silver Stars... From what I understand, the Medal of Honor needs to be witnessed by an officer, so figured the higher you go the harder it was to prove.

What has been the youngest person to get such a thing as a Purple Heart? I do hope that she gets some type of reward of recognition for this. I also agree with gcutler and I also think that he should get a special reward as well.

The news is saying that she did indeed have gunshot wounds. If the news would quit pulling facts out of their backsides and the gov't would quit thinking it will end the world if they tell the facts about someones injury, things would be a whole lot better.

I see that her parents and brother are flying to Germany to see her today. Nice to know she'll see them soon.

The rest of the MIAs from her company were among the bodies recovered when she was rescued. Including the POWs shown on tv, everyone from her company is acounted for now.
