I have managed to get them to give me HBO for $9.99 since I have been a Directv customer. They often have a deal with HBO and Cinemax for $9.99 total for x amount of time (6 months or a year) and I used to get them to switch the Sports Pack for Cinemax, but they didn't do that the past 2 years. They used to be very generous with the Sports Pack - giving it away for free for 6 months or $4.99/month for a year to many people but that seems to have stopped. I would really hate to lose it but I would really hate to pay almost $15/month for it, especially without bein Sports.

I have definitely watched Sounders and Timbers replays on Root Sports/AT&T in the past. I switched to ESPN+ for my MLS needs last year, so I'm not sure if that is still a thing.

I was able to watch the Colorado Rapids vs Real Salt Lake replay from 2006 on Altitude the other day.... yet all Revs replays on NBC Sports Boston is blacked out for me... in Minnesota. So it's depending on team/station/contract I'm assuming?

If I could drop the SportsPack but be able to keep all the channels in the Premier package, including all the movie & Music Choice channels, that would be awesome. I don’t watch all those channels anyway.

I just got Sports Pack free for 6 months. First time in a long time I’d been offered that.

    This brings up a question...

Has anyone had success in getting their MLB Extra Innings package price reduced if you pay per month for that? My monthly cost of ~$30 popped up with my March invoice, and the charge was also on my April invoice. I've called DirecTV about this, but they won't do a damn thing, telling me that there are no refunds for sports packages once the season has begun.

I had to laugh, because I asked the representative if she was aware that the MLB season has NOT begun? When I explained to her why, her response was unbelievable but not surprising: "Sir, the games may have not begun, but the season has. We are presently in the Major League Baseball season; therefore, you're not eligible to receive a refund."

Of course, I had to re-explain that I was seeking a credit only for the time period in which I am not able to watch any games, and that if I can't watch the MLB package, I'm not going to pay for it during the time period in which it is unavailable.

BTW, how the heck can there be blackouts on games played in the past? That's simply asinine.

I called about 2 weeks ago to see about what they're going to do about the MLB Season. I already paid for the season the $183 one time payment. The CSR I spoke with told me to hold off about canceling that within 2 weeks they were going to possibly send out E-Mails about what they're going to do about MLB Extra Innings for 2020. As of today 4-14-20 I still haven't received any sort of E-Mail yet.

I called 2 weeks ago the CSR said they are waiting for direction from MLB

As of that time season was delayed .

From my understanding MLB needs to tell tv providers guidance for MLB EI

That's been the case for as long as I can remember for MLB, other than old Yankee games on YES, and the NBA. NHL games usually are in the clear.
Exactly why that is, I have no idea.

Who owns the rights and how is the contract worded? If the MLB has sold in market rights to a specific RSN and has not limited those rights (to first air, 24 hours, current season, etc) they must black out any Extra Innings feeds in that market. If the station has purchased in market rights they must be blacked out outside of their market. Different sports have different contracts.

Sportspack is not worth $13.99 a month anymore. Like I said I went through each and every channel in that 600 Range and the amount of channels that were Blacked Out Far Outweighed the ones that were actually on and showing programming. I had them cut off because why pay for channels that are not available in your area? It's a money grab. The only way I would ever have Sportspack back on my programming is if I were to subscribe to the Premier Package & that package has gotten too expensive.

Interesting. I have tried to watch the Timbers the most and have never been able to watch a replay on Root, only the live games on the national channels (ESPN, FS1, Unimas, etc). I am in Vermont. Since I am there, the Revs are my local team so I can't really comment on them. They are always there for me, on often pixely NBC Sports Boston.

A interesting thing about the whole blackout situation is it is not the same for everyone. The national feed of YES (Which is a separate feed directly from YES for out of market viewers) has all Yankees and Nets classics in the clear, nation wide with no blackouts or replacement programing. NESN National is the same thing, all Red Sox and Bruins classics air blackout free.

So either DirecTV is wrong in blacking out old MLB/NBA games or YES/NESN is wrong by putting them on their national feeds.

Timbers replays have been blacked out for me as well on Root Sports. And what's funny is NBC Sports Boston looks good most of the time except during Revs games which then the channel turns into very SD looking video. I suspect the backhaul feed they are getting has to be garbage because the same feed on ESPN+ tends to look better in comparison.

Sometimes the Celtics games will skip/stutter. The PQ is meh during the Celtics games, but is decent during the pre-game/post-game and other programming. I agree that the Revs games look bad. It looks fine until they cut to the game then... boom crap. When either is on a national channel, it's a PQ treat. When the MLS is on Unimas, I notice a noticeable PQ difference there, too - local Unimas looks good, national Unimas is more blurry and not as focused, and TUDN is kinda in the middle. Back on NBCS Boston, the PQ goes down with college football, too. It seems that they can't handle live events well, which is, well, stupid. There is no skipping/stuttering/SD-looking PQ during studio/other shows but once a game comes on...

Blackout lifted on YES. Old games once again in the clear for SportsPak subscribers.
