Thats the same deal they offered me twice and I said no thanks! On the third call, I finally got a CSR that offered me $10 off for 12 mo's. So just keep calling.

You might call and say cancel so you go to the retention dept. They seem to be the more senior CSR's and are more sympathetic. Then tell them you really want it, but with my financial situation its too expensive. And I feel that I'm already paying $10 for HD, so I don't understand why I have to pay $99 to get NFL ST in HD? They either give you a better deal or you don't subscribe.

I am confused. On June 5, I spoke with a Very nice female CSR who offered me free Superfan. I insisted that I do not want any surprise charges showing up later on and she said that would not happen. Today, I get an email saying the following:

"Thanks to the convenience of auto renewal, NFL SUNDAY TICKET™ and SuperFan are yours as soon as the season starts.
Your account will be charged 6 payments of $44.99 for NFL Sunday Ticket and 6 payments of $16.50 for SuperFan.
Now, paint your face and get ready for another unforgettable season."

Wondering if D* is honoring these free ST offers or not. Should I be concerned?

For the last three years I've read all these got SF for free threads. If not that then all those that got the new customer offer (free premier pkg for 4 months) or whatever. Congrats to all those that got killer deals over the years. I played the game the last couple of years and did okay on deals I suppose sometimes after 3 or 4 calls. This year I just can't want to play the game again, it's just not worth the aggravation anymore. Luckily we are in a slightly better place money wise so I'm just ordering the package with the Superfan and paying for it period. Directv has already given me the anniversary gift of free Showtime for the year (Whoopee) and my heart just isn't into the whole song and dance required half the time to get these kind of deals. The pricing should be what it is period!!!!! The whole this person gets this deal and that person gets that deal is wearing thin with me. So I'm thrilled for all you that made the extra effort and got the deal you were looking for!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next year, if I'm not in a postion to pay full price for the package I'll just drop it. I can't do the gimme a break song and dance anymore.

I just tried calling and got some young chick on the phone and she low balled me $5 off, then $10 off then $20 for 6 months. I asked for SuperFan free and she said she couldn't do it. So I told her to cancel it then when she was processing the cancellation request, I asked to put her on hold so I could answer another call and then I hung up on her.

I will try calling back again.

Thought I'd share my (typical for me) experience....

Called 1-800-DIRECTV and said NFLST+SF was too much and I would have to cancel unless there were some discounts available. I was told there were none, but they would transfer me to another dept. Which they did. I asked the next CSR what dept it was, she said the dept to add/remove services. So I went through the whole thing again, she came back and said there were no discounts. She said my best bet would be to call back when I get charged for SF the first time and maybe by then my account would show that I can get it for free. She asked me about the $5 off that I am already getting, and I explained how that was due to an issue when I ordered NHL CI. I've been a DTV customer, including NFLST since 1996 and I always have trouble getting discounts. They always thank me for being a long time customer, and to that I reply, why do newer customers get more discounts than people who have been around much longer? She really didn't have an answer for that. So I will try again after I get the first installment for SF and if there is no deal I'll most likely cancel.

More about me...hardly ever get PPV (maybe 1-2 per year) and never subscribed to the premium package or any extra channels except ST, CI and MLB one year.

Honestly I think my account has been red-flagged because of an incident that occurred about 6-7 years ago. I don't dare bring it up! But I have had a DTV account and have been paying for service since 1996, when I paid like $500 or $600 for a Sony one-room system!

I hope she went ahead and processed your cancellation request anyway.

Why couldn't you just say that you will think about it and call them back later?

What is the best thing you should say when initiating your call to get to the right department for issuing credits for the ST and SF? I tried just saying "Cancel" and the guy in that department wouldn't give me any credits.

Last year I was able to get SF free by paying for all of ST upfront. While I’d love to get it cheaper, I really just hate paying the extra $99 for SF. If I call up and they won’t give it to me for free and I say I want to cancel it and they cancel it, what would it cost me to sign up for it again? The e-mail I got said it would cost me $44.99 x 6 months ($269.94) and $16.50 x 6 months ($99).

Directv is having problems accesing peoples accounts right now. I was talking to somebody earlier trying to get a discount and they weren't throwing in the SF free to me only $20 off ST for 6 months.

When they get th accounts up again I am going to try saying I was disconnected when the girl was trying to discount my NFL package.

I called, told the CSR that there are people getting $20 off for 6 months and free SF, could I get the same deal. She transfered me to their "Premier Customer Service" and I asked the same thing. She said sure we can do that.

    So, quick, easy, and straightforward.

I think part of it is how long you have been a subscriber (1999 for me) and what discounts you have gotten lately (none for over a year).

DirecTV Calls Mobile Play For NFL 'SuperFan' Package

Mobile Streaming Video Add-On to Be Available Sept. 13

Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 7/14/2009 9:42:29 AM EDT
DirecTV, lobbing an extra perk at hardcore gridiron buffs, will let subscribers who shell out $380 per season access live NFL games on an iPhone starting Sunday, Sept. 13.

The iPhone app is an enhancement to the SuperFan upgrade to the NFL Sunday Ticket package and there will be no extra charge for the service beyond the $100 SuperFan fee, said DirecTV spokesman Robert Mercer. That's in addition to the $280 per season for the exclusive out-of-market Sunday Ticket.

DirecTV's SuperFan package last season provided 180 games in HD, as well as Internet streaming of every Sunday Ticket game to subscribers' desktop computers.

The mobile SuperCast app will work over 3G networks and local Wi-Fi connections, Pali Research analyst Rich Greenfield wrote in a note Monday.

"While watching NFL games on a cell phone is certainly a niche product (given its cost), it illustrates how DirecTV continues to push technology to cement its brand identity with consumers," he wrote.

The satellite operator announced plans in March to introduce SuperCast Mobile when it extended its exclusive deal with the NFL through 2014 for $1 billion per year.

Is FREE this year to all Commercial Customers (Bars, Restaurants, etc.) who subscribe to the NFL Sunday Ticket. This enables them to get games in HD as long as they also subscribe to a Core (Basic) package and the HD Access Package (and of course have HD equipment). Must be DIRECTV's Stimulus package.....

I have been seriously thinking of canceling NFLST. It's just too expensive for just me. But if the deal where it is $150 with SF free is to be had, I think I could be persuaded. Is that what people are getting? I have had NFLST since '01 and just upgraded to HD in March in case that matters.

Damn iPhone. C'mon D* give us some CrackBerry love. Geeze. I digress....

I just tried to get the free SF and $20 off for 6 months and was offered $20 off for 6 months and 3 months of free showtime. I guess that is ok, but I wish I could have gotten the free superfan.

First off, thanks to all of you that posted your stories. Luckily I stumbled across this forum! I apologize in advance for the long post.

I received an auto renewal email from DirecTV letting me know they were getting ready to start charging me 6 monthly payments of $44.99 for ST and 6 monthly payments of $16.50 for SF, a grand total of $369.94 (about $21.76 per week in a 17 week season). Since that’s a fairly good amount of money, I started looking for discounts on ST and SF and came across this forum.

Here’s how it worked in my case. I called and told the CSR that it was too expensive and I was thinking about cancelling the service, I was then transferred to a retention specialist. I told the retention specialist the same thing, she immediately responded with an offer to take $50 off SF. I stated that it was still too expensive and she said how about we give you SF for free. I said alright, but the ST is still too much money, and that I’ve seen where folks were getting discounts, again with an immediate response she said I could get a $5 credit for 6 months. I continued to explained that the discount folks were getting was more then her offer, and to my surprise she immediately countered with a $20 credit for 6 months, but she also stated that was the best offer they could make to keep my business. Excluding hold time (30 mins) the whole conversation took about 3 minutes, just had to negotiate a little.

I went from paying $369.94 to only paying $149.94 ($8.82 per week in a 17 week season). I couldn’t believe it, I haven’t paid this little for Sunday Ticket since 2001.

    Thanks again!

Well maybe I didn't hold out long enough, but yesterday I got SF free and $10 off for 6 months. Made me happy though. Told them initially that I had to cancel due to lower income/budget problems. The first offer was for free SF which I said was not enough, and then came the offer to throw in $10 off per month.
