I had dropped it last year but was looking at getting it back when I read this thread. I called the normal number and got a CSR who said she couldn't give me that kind of deal. I said I was dissapointed because I knew of someone who had gotten the $20/ month discount and SF for free. She again told me she couldn't do that but offered me free movie channels instead. I told he that I was dissapointed that after being a good customer for 5 years I wasn't being offered the same deals as other people and I was thinking of going back to cable since Sunday Ticket was the main reason I was with D* in the first place. She got a strange tone in her voice and said "so you are telling me that if you can't get the ST deal you are going to cancel your account" and I said I guess that's what I'm saying. She then tells me that she can transfer me to another department who might be able to help me and immediately transferred me to retention. I explained that I knew of the deal my "Friend" had gotten when he asked to cancel ST and SF and was wondering if they could give me the same deal. I explained the details of $20/month off and free SF and he put me on hold for a few minutes and then came back and said he could offer me that same deal.

I told him to sign me up.

So it is possible to get the deal even if you aren't a current subscriber. I had only been cancelled for one year but you can certainly give it a try.

don't worry, I got the same e-mail...I had already negotiated the free SF and $20 off for 6 months off the ST...this is clearly a mass e-mail they sent to all subscribers/auto renewals...

log on to your account and check my programing...the ST show show up as free...then check the bill for the $20 credit...if everything is ok there, you're fine...

I called today and said the budget was getting tight in order to keep Sunday Ticket. I told her the $20 off deal and the free superfan. She told me it was based on your account history. She said she could give me free superfan and $10 off a month, but would transfer me to someone who could do "the deal."

He said no problem and I was off and running! $150 for the Sunday Ticket. Great deal if you ask me!

I think it's time to cancel. I have had it with them raising the price every year. In 2007 it was $229, 2008 - $249 and now $279??? Then, they just auto renew it without letting you know about the price increase.

Well you have no choice, everyone goes on auto-renew.

Acutualy the price has been known since January 1st when the 10 month easy-pay plan became available for ordering. :)

Wow I got screwed. They offered me the $10/month + free SF last time I called and I said I wasn't sure. She said she'd put a note on my account and that if I changed my mind I could call back to accept at a later time. I called today and the woman I spoke with said now that because I didn't accept it at the time that I'm SOL. What the heck?

Hmmm thats strange. not to long ago, I called to cancel and I was offered the $20 a month for six months but no free SF. I declined the offer. I then called back a few weeks later to try one more time and the CSR that I was talking with mentioned to me that it was documented on my account what was offered to me and that I turned it down. I was still able to secure free SF and the $20 a month for six months credit. All be it after acting very humble for the first few minutes

Yeah I don't get it. I didn't call and complain or anything, I just said that I was offered a deal for DT and wanted to act on it. I'll call and try again later. Should I still go to the retention department to accept an offer that's documented?

Original CSR could offer no discount but she transferred to to another dept. (I assume retention) when I asked for her to remove NFLST/SF/auto renew from my account.

I explained to the next CSR that I couldn't justify the expense but if he could offer any credits I would consider staying with NFLST/SF. This is truthful. I was ready to cancel if they wouldn't budge on the price. Partially because it is hard to afford and because I know other people have gotten discounts. I felt I should be offered same or similar deals. I have 3 TVs, Choice Plus, HD, DVR, Protection Plan, 1 movie Package, and auto pay.
My bill is always over $100 a month.

The best deal that I could get was $10 off for 6 months and an additional $5 off for 6 months. I was hoping for more; but that's better than nothing.

I did get the "new subscriber/win back" deal last year (even though I'm not new to DirecTV or NFLST/SF).

I'm pretty happy with the price and with the new iPhone and SuperCast enhancements I'll be able to tune in from the road.

It's really silly having to jump through these hoops. You wonder if DirecTV has any clue on their pricing. How many people see the $275 and $99 and simply don't subscribe? You wonder if they priced it at $199 or something more reasonable if they would get more customers.

O.K. Just got off the phone to secure my deal and it was painless...really. I was prepared to toss Sunday Ticket since the price has gone up again and my pay at work has been cut 5 percent. I've had ST for a long time too.

Anyway, I calmly stated my position that it was simply to expensive and if something could not be done, I was prepared to cancel. No threats, I just told the rep that if we could not work something out I was going to cancel.

I passed my 10 year anniversary back in April so that helped a lot.

Anyway here is my deal. It is tricky, but without having to lie or make any threats, this is what I got. I didn't even haggle. I know some have got the thing for 150 but I did O.K. without having to sell my soul.

Super Fan billed at 16.50 x 6 months. New amount FREE
    Sunday Ticket billed at 44.99 x 6 months. New amount 34 x 6 months
HD extra pack @ 4.99 per month. New amount free for 6 months (net ST is 29 x 6)
Note: I already have HD access and the extra HD add on package, so this is a real credit

Then just as she was figuring my new amount, she gave me the HD extra pack free for an additional 6 months.

    So the skinny is ST w SF @ 34 x 6 = 204 vs (Original was 270.00 + 99 w SF = 369.00)
    Minus the HD extra @ 4.99 X 6 = 30
My bill with this deal is dropping by 33 a month over 6 months = 196 savings
Then I still get a 5.00 credit for the next 6 months after that.

To be honest, I HATE the whole process. I hate the fact that we have to do this. It's almost like buying a new car. But I must admit, the rep was an absolute peach and I barely had to say a word. But I still hate the fact that we have to go through this. Why not just make it 150.00? They would get a boat load of new subs at that price that would more than make up for the long timers having to foot the bill.

Wow... They must not like me at all. I was offered $5 off a month for 3 months. When asked if I wanted her to apply that to my account, I actually said "No thank you, I need to take a step back and reevaluate what I am currently paying" My commitment is up in September. I enjoy the Sunday Ticket and Superfan (I've had ST since I became a DirecTV subscriber in 02) I sent a follow-up email and will see if anything comes of that, I doubt it with the "savings" I was offered and was told I am already getting a great deal as an auto-renew customer.

    It's a sad, sad day.

Call it paranoia, but now I'm almost sure my past has caught up with me. I just called again, said "Cancel Sunday Ticket" and was directed to a guy who started out friendly. But it quickly changed. In fact, he offered me $10 off each payment, but no free Superfan. When I pushed, he reiterated the offer but this time, he stopped mid-sentence, paused for about 5 seconds, and his tone suddenly changed. He then informed me I was no eligible for any discounts. He said because he had already offered me "something" the best he could do was $5 off for 6 months. So I lost half of the original deal. When I asked what happened, he said it was because I am already getting $5 off for 12 months on another promotion. I told him that was due to a D* error and he said that's not indicated on the account and there is only so much he can do. I asked how others are getting $120 off plus free Superfan? He said there is no such deal and others are lying (my word not his).

So I canceled the ST. The kids will be pissed, the wife will be happy, but in all reality, we could use the extra money even though I budget it and have already put the money aside. The CSR warned me I would no longer be eligible for any auto-renew discounts in the future and I said you guys are always discounting stuff so I'm not concerned.

When I told him I was baffled that dozens of people are eligible for the 120+free SF and that I'm not after 13 years of service, he said I'm sorry you don't understand what I clearly explained. So apparently I'm one of those clients they prefer go away.

    Good luck all.

    two experiences come to mind:

    1. I get the impression that these deals start to go away as they become more popular and many people start asking for them...as if D* has some threshold number they will give out...

    2. I know this has been said a million times...but trying a different CSR will get you different results most of the time...given the amount of money in question, it's worth trying...

I try calling during normal business hours so if I need to elevate to "manager", I assume there more of them around and we're getting regular employees as opposed to burnt-out nightshifters :)

I just called and got SF for free and $5.00 off of ST for 6 months.

I called initially to cancel, but she worked with me. She said "how can we work with you to get the price down to what you want to pay". At first she was going to do SF for $50.00 and $5.00 off for 6 months. Then I said how about SF for free, that I've heard a lot of people getting it for free. She said yeah, ok, we can do that for you. I didn't want to push my luck, so I said ok, that would be very nice of you, thank you very much. She was very nice.

For anyone that has called back, do you still go to retention or another department?

Called again just now. They offered either free SF or the $10 off not both. It seems they are now stopping any promotions. I told them I don't want either and I'll just sit this season out I guess.

How can you tell a customer they can call back to accept but then when you do they say no sorry.

I keep calling the cancellation department, should I be calling another department since I was already offered the promotion? I have a feeling they're now documenting my account saying that I keep calling back.

Edit: I can confirm they are noting your account if you call and do not take an offer. So if you are offered something do not hesitate to take it if it sounds good. They are shutting the promotions down (I think).

Because no 2 CSRs are alike. You should have taken the deal when it was offered, that CSR probably didn't bother to put the note on your account. If you keep trying you will get it, but don't argue with anyone or they will put a note on your account. If the call isn't going well just thank them and hang up. Then try again. I try to call the CSR by name and be friendly, they don't have to give you anything but if they like you they will try.
