Right on. Hope it means something good is coming SOON!
But make the deal in such a way that you do notraise the bill for the 80%+ of your subscribers who will be blacked out of the Lakers games because we are out-of-market
Clippers looked good last night.
all that sounds great! but they still let me out to dry last night!
Testing for league pass maybe. I don't think sixto can be checking the test feeds and such for a while due to sandy.
Doesn't explain the searches showing TWC programs.
I'll bet they have everything in place in case the deal gets done.
Plus, that game was not on LP.
It's funny how so called "Real Laker Fans" after a 0-2 and start are acting like the season is over and we are heading for the NBA draft lottery.Heck the past 2 days everyone has has been calling into 710AM ESPN LA calling for Mike Brown's head and begging for Dr. Buss to bring back and pay Phil Jackson $20 million a season to coach the Lakers again
I'm honestly not surprised with the start.Look Dwight Howard is coming off a major back surgery and played in 2 pre season games going into the season.Clearly he isn't in game condition yet and is still getting into shape.Heck I played college level basketball and know it takes a player or athlete a couple games to get back into game playing condition. Then you got Kobe banged up again with a nagging foot injury.
I'm not and never have been a fan of Mike Brown but people have to give him some time to establish & run the hybrid Princeton offense he's trying to run with this team. Also factor in that a lot of his assistant coaching staff is brand new here in LA.The only assistant held over from last years coaching staff is Chuck Person.
Last night they were playing in Portland where they literally always lose up there.Since 2002 the Lakers record up there is 4-17.
TWC SportsNet Programming info is showing up in the iphone app as well. My guyts tells me you are correct - that they are testing it, and making sure they have it ready to go WHEN they do a deal.
The NBA provides feeds for every game on League Pass, so DirecTV does not need access to TWCSN for that package (unless they want to add a dual feed).
I think they will provide a dual feed if necessary. They did so last night with CSN Houston.
I calling for a new coach because I have never seen a good offensive scheme come from him once as a Lakers coach, not to mention his defense is not at all what it's touted to be. It's not about this start, its about his entire time here.
There's some games shown for some teams only on a local over the air channel, and they may need the Lakers feed for that. I think that they are testing for both purposes, league pass because they know they will need it for that, and in hope of an agreement as well.
Some people may have wondered why i am not going ballistic like so many of you are including changing providers. I've been a Laker fan since the 80's, but the "deal" as of now (and don't bring up the Sparks, Galaxy, whatever) doesn't justify adding $4 per month to my bill on a part time basis. For a measly $5 a month i can get the HD Extra Pack which includes 9 HD channels 24 hours a day everyday. Heck, even something like HBO etc only cost $15 or so and you get a bunch of channels 24/7 on a year round basis. Yet you want to pay about a fourth to TWC for something that's only on a part time basis? And even that part time gets cut down because the Lakers will be on TNT etc. How about charging $2 a month, that's fair, but it won't happen. I can watch the Lakers live on the Internet, sure, the quality is kind of sucky, but i can see the same games TWC is showing (including the announcers) for free.
Keep in mind that if DIRECTV pays $4, you will pay two or three times that.
The Laker game last night only averaged 89,000 viewers for a 2.82 rating. Last year the Lakers averaged a 4.7 rating on FS West. Seems TWC needs DirecTV and Cox more than vice versa. I'm really surprised the new channel isn't averaging more viewers than that especially considering it's the start of the season. Not trying to start an argument and I don't care whether or not DirecTV carries this channel. Just providing information for everyone.
<<Clippers fan. :eek2:
But at least tomorrow's game will be on ESPN and PT as well. I'll be watching it on PT. Lawler > *
I have no doubt that they are going to take a serious hit in the ratings with no D*/Dish/Cox, but last night was also Halloween. That skews those numbers as well.
Do you or anyone else know what the ratings were for Internet users for the Lakers last night? I'm wondering if online streaming for Laker games has increased in part because of the lack of a deal between TWC and DirecTV, Dish, and Cox.
Kind of sucky is the understatement of the year!
i don't think they keep tabs on that, isn't streaming games illegal ?
I don't know. I see zero reason for that, ZERO. I can see maybe an additional 30 to 40% max, for profit considerations and equipment, however, based on them already evidently testing the channel, I have to question if they are seeing any real costs to carrying this channel from a hardware standpoint. And one more channel can't be that big a difference in workload for their teams if its a full time channel. Part time I get it being a lot more work, but not full time. At some point, adding more channels no longer really costs too much in terms of infrastructure for a single channel, and its ROI is really going to be all about programming costs vs viewership gains losses, etc. I think they are at that point for most of their channels these days. Until they are using every ounce of bandwidth they have available right now anyway.
