    While the Lakers are one of the most valuable NBA franchises, to characterize them as one of three most valuable on the planet is bit of an exaggeration. This Forbes article from July ranks them as #35.

    Manchester United and Real Madrid are #1 and #2, each in the $2 range. The Dodgers come in at #6 at $1.4B, and the Lakers are the highest ranked NBA team valued at less than a billion. Four of the top ten are European Soccer clubs and 12 of the top 20 are NFL teams.

    The Lakers are ranked by Forbes the most valuable NBA Franchise at over $900 million.

    It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the NBA is third in terms of American sports as far as value and popularity goes compared to the NFL & MLB.

    Not sure how relevant that is to the 289,000,000 who don't want to watch pro basketball.........

    And, they are 35th worldwide.

    Value and popularity do not necessarily correlate.

    Here is the latest e-mail sent out by D*

    Not looking good at all when D* sends out this email and then removes the section off the directvpromise.com website.

    Like I said it's looking much more like D* is willing to miss the entire Lakers regular season over this dispute.

    Because I have every DAMN right to keep posting in here.

    I don't get the whole attitude of D* FANBOYS on this site who tell disgruntled D* customers to basically shut up and try to censor my complaints on this forum.

    At prices being reported, good for DIRECTV®.

    Now if I were one of the several hundred thousand diehard Lakers fans who was also a DIRECTV® sub, I'd be willing to pay the price and more.

    It's just pointless - you switched to fix the problem. I didn't like TWC internet, so I got Uverse and like it...I see no point in visiting TWC internet forums to keep complaining and stirring the pot. Just my 2 cents...

    As long I'm paying for D* and as long I'm under contract and have to pay a ETF fee I have every right to voice my displeasure over D*.

    Most of the stuff I post are actual facts coming from D*'s PR mouth.

    I don't make claims like Chicagoblue saying he knows sources and to check his post history and that a deal was imminent over a week ago.

    They may be trying to leverage that some, but they are not going to be able to make as much money simply by doing that and not having DirecTV business as well. They need DirecTV in the long run because of the advertising dollars and such to make this channel viable.

    I really think this is all about Time Warner Cable wanting a boat load of money for the channel and DirecTV being afraid that every Tom Dick and Harry is going to want to start a second or third RSN and new network for each college conference and they are trying to not get stuck in a situation where they have to pay for all these channels for all customers, while cable companies are only stuck paying for these channels in there specific areas...

    I don't think the blame is all that one sided for any of the three key players... Lakers Time Warner Cable and DirecTV all have caused this mess over the years, and its ow come to a head.

    Anyone can post canned emails from DirecTV; you're not breaking anything earth shattering.

    As for ChicagoBlue, him and Satelliteracer know more than you and the rest of us about what's going on and the industry.

    Is the TWC SN "test" channel 9732 still working for you guys? Mine worked for 24 hours only and has been dark (721 error code) for the past three days.

    Yeah;

    With all due respect to kb24sd, its hard to see how that letter is accurate. Why claim that negotiations are stalemated but your continuing to try and point others to the OPTY web-page for current status, yet remove TWC SN's listing without any explanation?

    Makes no sense whatsoever.

    Same here;

    The program info. in the channel banner has also been removed for the same length of time.

    Nothing but a continuous "TBA."

    Or it is just about making a complicated deal. Satellite deals are complicated. They do not have the same boundaries of cable companies.

    We may find out soon.

    You are correct, Forbes ranks the Lakers as the most valuable NBA franchise. That doesn't alter the fact that on the global list, Forbes ranks the Lakers as only #35. There are dozens of soccer, football, baseball teams and even a motor racing team ahead them.

    Seriously what is the point of even comparing Euro league Soccer teams and motor sports to the Lakers in this thread :rolleyes:

    It has no affect on this TV deal dispute over the Lakers.

    Time Warner Cable does not own the Lakers in any way.

    They only have the broadcast TV rights to their local games both home & road that serves to their own customers and other TV providers in the Lakers DMA zone.

    The Lakers as a sports franchise are owned by The Buss family, about 20% to 30% to AEG and another small percentage to a Asian billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong.
