Just wondering how things will work aside from the 6-month waived mirroring fees?

I'm likely going to end up with a 21-700 and R22-100, both leased, as spares at trial's end. Will I be able to deactivate these 2 and return them to DirecTV without consequence? i.e. will the HR24 and H24 in my case show up after 6 months as regular ole' IRDs in my account that a CSR could see?

Also - is it all mirroring fees that will be waived for 6 months or just the fee for each Hx24 box? i.e. by removing my 2 x 20-700 temporarily I assume I will not get any "action" notices from DirecTV concerning those boxes or any others I have leased.

    Thanks :)

Each of "these" receivers will have the mirroring fee waived for six months.
All others should be the same costs. Leased receivers deactivated should have to be returned.
Any earlier field trial units [owned] should be able to be "shelved" as needed/not needed.

OK so I'm probably best off just keeping all of my receivers "active" until trial's end, then deactivate and return the 2 unwanteds, and "activate" the HR24 and H24?

Well I would hold off deactivating any leased units until I knew what I wanted.
You won't have to "activate" the H/HR24s as they would be active and only the mirroring fee will change.
You also shouldn't [DUH] talk to the CSRs as they will see the IRD serial number [but not the model number].

Ok i'll just leave everything as is until the 6 months is up, then drop from 6 active units back down to 4 when the new mirroring fees would appear.

    Thanks VOS :)

I will probably deactivate my last SD DVR, an R16. Not sure yet though, might be an H21.

On the other hand, I may not deactivate anything. lol

Yeah I'm gonna keep the 20-700s and ditch the 21-700 and R22-100. The 20-700s are great units.

I'm dropping my last leased receiver (HR20-700) so this'll give me four owned receivers....and in the end it doesn't matter because I'll run them until they're obsolete and the fee is the same no matter what the designation.

I'm sure once the First Look hits the 'net I'm gonna deactivate the last SD unit I've got, an R15-500. That will leave me with five HR2x boxes and the H24. I'll probably keep all of them active (I've got five DVRs now) and just use the H24 either in the master bath or in the kitchen.

So how did you guys get all this owned equipment? Field trials, or did you just pay through the nose? I REALLY want to have a owned DVR, preferrably my HR22, so I can do some mods on it (led light color, 2TB drive, etc), but cant figure out how to get DirecTv to let me buy it.

Different LED's would be cool but all mine are tucked away so I can't see them anyways... But I thought I read somewhere that the software only (for now) excepts 1.5TB? Am I wrong? Someone will probably correct me though.

In my case, my HR21-700, AM21, R22-200 and SWM8 all came through field trials. I couldn't afford to buy all this stuff and pay my Directv bill.

One of my owned receivers is from a field trial, a couple others are from warranty replacements of HR10-250s.

    ***

I would prefer to own all my receivers just to save the tax on the lease fee, also because it would give me freedom to replace the internal drive with a larger one, so at the end of the trial I'll take a look at my setup and see what to deactivate. After all, why would a single guy need 8 DIRECTV receivers with 14 tuners, on top of the 2 in his Cablevision DVR and 4 in his HTPC? ;)

So does anyone know a number to contact at DirecTv to request permission to pay the additional fee to own the box? Perhaps since its already used and activated, they might not charge as much. When I bought the box, it was $399, now they are down to $165 at some places. I just know a CSR wouldnt have a clue what I was wanting to do :)

I feel like such a slacker. We only have 10 DirecTV tuners, soon to be 11, for the two of us. Plus a couple in various Media Center PCs.

My R22-200 showed up on the DirecTV system as an HR21-200, and to this day it still says that on their system. The good news is that it is owned, so I'll never have to worry about matching the model number when returning it.

Not all field trial equipment has been owned. I'm glad this equipment will be. It is nice to have units you can deactivate and re-activate as needed without having to return them.

My HR23-700 showed up as an HR21-700; no suprise there. However, it's location was listed as "HR23CE".

As with Carl, it remains this way on my account to this day.
