Leonard Cohen, songwriter and singer, has died at the age of 82. One of his most famous songs, "Hallelujah", has been covered hundreds of times. RIP, Leonard! :(

No offense meant to Mr. Cohen, but maybe one person in a thousand knew who he was, if that.

Granted: I hadn't heard of him myself until I looked up the lyrics to "Hallelujah" on the web a few weeks ago, after hearing a church version of the song and realizing that it was different from what I'd previously heard.

One in 1000 would be popular - Although he may be better known for his works than his name.

I became very immersed in Leonard Cohen long after "Natural Born Killers" came out. .
I just always loved those couple tracks for years off the soundtrack.
But it took years for me to question who it was

One day I looked him up and bought all the cds.
I really love the poetic verse with the reality of love death and loss.

Hell, he named the last album "You Want it Darker" and in the spirit of Johnny Cash, he died right after its release.

Nice opening on SNL last night giving tribute to Mr. Cohen.

I just checked it out on Youtube. I listened to two different length Buckley performances. Doesn't make any of my Top 1000 lists. As a guest might say on American Bandstand, "Too slow to dance to."

I took the performance differently ... somehow I don't believe Kate and the SNL cast was broken up about Mr Cohen's death as much as other news of the week.

It was a tribute and a send off to the Hilary character.
I don't think she will be doing that ever again.

I was caught off guard by it.
Cohen really crawled under my skin when I started listening to him.

She did not ruin that song for me.
I thought she did it well.

I was touched by SNL's decision to lead with a tribute to Cohen.
Kate McKinnon's performance was lovely and seemed heartfelt.

I did not say that she ruined the song. I just didn't see it as a tribute to Cohen.

I'd expect a tribute to Cohen to have a framed picture of him sitting on the piano or a slate on the screen with his name and "1934-2016" or some other reference to Cohen other than his popular song. "I'm not giving up, and neither should you." is not a tribute to Cohen, in my opinion. (Unless the claim is that Cohen gave up.)

If SNL was intending a tribute to Cohen they could have done a better job focusing on him.

That being said, Kate did a good job on the song and was able to display her non-comedic talents.

I'm not sure I understand why you can't think it's both a tribute to Cohen and a closure to Clinton. SNL very seldom has a single idea in their comedy.
