The LoCast app is now on Directv in the app section. I’m guessing it’s just until CBS and Nexstar, respectively, come to their contract agreements.

We have a Nexstar station in Phoenix. I’m not seeing it available on my account page.

Locast has a web site which shows what cities have stations available. It is not many. Something like 13.

I should have mentioned that it’s,apparently, only available to those with a Genie. That’s how I’m seeing it.

Are you in one of the local markets with a CBS blackout?

Locast is in the following cities:

New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Sioux Falls, Denver, Rapid City, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

I wonder if anyone in those cites, with a blackout in effect, do not have the app loaded (if they have a genie)

The Locast app showed up on my HR24 over the weekend. Had to do a restart in order to get it to load. I didn't try it out since I can get CBS fine with my antenna.

    Review on Locast.

Locast review: free local programming with a catch

“The FAQ also cites Locast’s ability to charge a fee “necessary to defray the actual and reasonable costs” of providing the service. Technically, Locast doesn’t charge a fee — it asks for contributions of at least $5 per month. You do have the choice of not paying that “contribution” — but if you don’t, you’ll find Locast’s broadcasts practically unwatchable.

Why? Because every 15 minutes, the broadcast is interrupted by a request for the membership contribution. Actually, the broadcast isn’t just interrupted — it’s completely stopped. After the plea for money is over, you aren’t returned to your program, but bounced back to the programming grid. If you want to continue to watch your show, you have to click on it again — and say goodbye to any dialogue you may have missed in the meantime. (While I didn’t pony up the $5 requested, judging from user comments for the Android app, members do get to watch shows uninterrupted.”

I watched it from their website in a web browser on my Mac one day for about an hour and it never stopped the broadcast asking for money. Must just be a 'feature' of the app.

Dual timer? Do you mean “double play”? What model receiver?

Can somebody tell me what somebody whose locals don’t correspond to one of the 13 Locast markets receive when using the Directv version of the app? Is it even made available? Thanks!

I was using the Locast app on my phone and casting it to my Chromecast and it was working fairly well and even had the local subchannels we don't get on DirecTV (Lafftv, Buzzr, METV, etc) but as someone pointed out above, after a couple days, it began nagging me to donate and every 15 minutes would shut the stream off. I was gonna donate because I honestly really liked the app and the quality of the streams were great but i've been reading horror stories of people donating and the nagging ads not going away even after donating so i'm reluctant to even use it now.

I have a HR-24 - 500 and HR-24 - 200 and I live in the Chicago market. Both receivers load the Locast APP and the channels show up. But when I click on a channel it goes right back to the channel I was already watching on Directv.
