WHy do they force certain locals when Raleigh or Tenn would be better.
Listening to Atlanta's murders is old. We are two hour from atlanta or Ashville N.C. or Tenn Chattanooga

E* uses your address to determine what DMA is supposed to serve your location.
It is not set by E*.

According to the Dish Network website, you are in:

    Atlanta, GA 28904
Mon Oct 04 2010 19:54:28 Mountain Daylight Time
    LOCAL NETWORK PACKAGE
Congratulations! This address is eligible for the:

    Atlanta, GA Local Network Package

The thing about it is, you are located near the GA/NC Border, so Dish uses the closest city to your area, and that happens to be Atlanta (Even though it is 110 miles away. )

Well it appears Dish is not at fault on this one so we will continue to live it. My wife asks me this question everytime we switch SAT providers.

I'm 125 miles to the South of you. I kind of figured we were in the same zone. Denver would be Mountain time.

"They" is the FCC which adopted regulations pursuant to laws enacted by Congress. Never expect anything rational in this scenario as the FCC just simply took the market areas establish by the nice folks at the Nielsen Co. that does all those worthless ratings that can destroy a TV show.

According to the Nielsen rating people, you were in the Atlanta market area when some folks (not all) got their signals by 60' antenna and watched them on their black and white TVs.

Most assuredly you buy everything in Atlanta area stores the TV stations advertise. And because you do, the stations get numerical credit for you watching so some idiot car dealer pays more for his ads even though you aren't rushing to Atlanta to buy a car.

See how logical all this is?

Oh and the map for your state can be viewed here.

I feel your pain. I am a D* sub that lives in Oklahoma but I get my locals from Kansas & Missouri. I think its a crock and want them from Tulsa so I have instate programming, not to mention 5 minutes from me is the county line where they get the Tulsa locals.

Actually, you're the only county that's Atlanta but Cherokee to your west is Chattanooga, to your East is a chunk of Greenville SC/Asheville NC DMA, there's a chunk that's Norfolk VA and two counties that are Florence, SC.

But yeah, writing your congresscritter is about your only thing to do.

You are also right on other counties not get n.c.
My biggest problem is when Atlanta has a traffic accident they interrupt anything on and show it.
Better get off this soap box before I have another problem.
    Thanks for listening.

Most likely that's the local time at Dish when the "answer" to the DMA query was emitted by their servers. I know, it looks weird for an Eastern time location/customer.

It does seem absurd to make Clay
/////BREAKING NEWS/////"There is an overturned tractor-trailer on I-285 Westbound on the top end perimeter. We've got a crew on the way and will have more information as soon as it becomes available"///
County the only county in the entire state subject to the Atlanta DMA.

Cute. Not to mention when the clouds get a little dark and we all get a lesson in meteorology every 15 minutes from the weather geeks .

How far are you from Ashville, NC? You may be able to pick the locals from there OTA.
