Vip622 SilverHD + Locals vs HR20-700 Total Choice Plus + HD

    Total Setup $299
    Monthly $70.96 ($49.99 + $9.99 HD + $5.99 DVR + $4.99 Lease)
Special -$10 for 4 months, -$150 ordering onlin
    +iPod Shuffle
    (1 HD/DVR, 1 regular tv, 2 boxes)

    Total Setup $199.99
    Monthly $70.97 ($59.99 + $5 locals + $5.98 DVR)
    Special -$20 for 10 months, -$200 rebate
    +Dvd, -$100 rebate if I order through sundish.com
(1 HD/DVR, 1 regular tv, one box and can access DVR through 2nd tv)

DirecTv channels I care about not on DISH:
AMC, DIY, Fox Movie, Nat'l Geo, Nicktoons, OLN, Biography, VH1 Classic, XM Radio

DISH channels I care about not on DirecTv
Comcast Sport (although no Philly  ), ESPN Alt, Fox SportsNet, PAX, TLC, Sirus Radio
    PLUS Extra Voom HD Channels:
Animania HD, Family Room HD, GamePlay HD, Equator HD, Film Fest HD, Food Network HD, Kung Fu, Monsters HD, World Cinema HD, HDNews, Rave HD, NFL Network HD, Rush HD, WorldSport HD, Gallery HD, HGTV HD, Treasure HD, Ultra HD

    Vip622 vs HR20-700
    Seems to early to tell.
PQ seems debated heavily in forums so probably close to equal
    622 Has dual buffers, I don't think 700 does
622 Runs two rooms no extra charge (only 1 HD)
Haven't seen 700 DVR functionality yet, can't compare, 622 looks very nice
Both do MPG4, dual tuners, HD Locals via Sat
Probably have to wait longer for 700 or pay a little extra at BBuy

Right now I'm leaning towards Dish. The extra HD, the DVR on two tv's, Dual buffers, and bigger rebates.

The things that pull me back towards Dish are past experience (I had both before COmcast and preferred D*, but E* was about 7-8 years ago and much has changed), I like XM better than Sirius, I get networks in two timezones, AMC & DIY.

So does it look like I'm missing anything or wrong about anything? Anything else I should be considering? I'd like to make a final decision and order today or tomorrow so I can finally cut the chord on Comcast. thx

Sounds good to me. Just make sure you can get the HD signals with both. I cant get HD with DirecTV. I do get ESPN Alt, PAX (locals) and TLC with DirecTV so you need to change those in your comparison.

Dish is no doubt the better choice, maybe the best out of anyone, if HDTV is what your looking for.

If you are recording two shows on the main TV, the second Tv screen goes to a black screen and the E* receiver counts as Two receivers. You are only allowed up to four.

The Vip622 only has one OTA tuner. Once the OTA tuners are activated in the HR20 it will have two tuners. E* doens't have as many HD LiL markets so the number of OTA tuners is an important issue.

Explain this to me like I'm four. What the heck are you talking about?

Are you saying that the new E* receiver if recording two shows on one TV that the other 2nd supported TV becomes unusuable?

For specifically. I'm considering switchig from D* to E*. I already have a DVR that will record two progams at the same time.

If I stick with D* I will be getting the HR20 on a second TV and if I understand it correctly I will be able to record 4 programs at the same time. 2 on the upstairs TV on the old DVR and two on the downstairs TV with the new HR20 DVR.

If I choose E* and allow one DVR to control both TV's can someone explain how it works in various situations.

    1. Can someone watch somethig that has been recorded while another person watches somethig else that has been recorded on the second TV?

    2. Can the two TVs play the same recorded program at the same time but be fast forwarded, rewond, paused at different times for both TVs.

Also here is a link to 622 user guide

I also e-mailed tech support because I wanted to put the 622 on just one TV so I could just use both tuners at the same time without disabling the other tv. Four total TV's in house, so it would have been 622 and three standard receivers. Was told I could not to this because would have to run another line and the switch cost too much.

Thank you for your e-mail. The only option currently available is to replace
two receivers with the 625. To replace only one would require an additional
line from the satellite dish or switch. This would require the equipment on the
dish or the switch to be replaced with a more expensive piece of equipment. We
    apologize for the inconvenience.

We hope we have properly addressed your concerns. If you have further questions you can respond to this e-mail or access our online technical support at the following link: http://tech.dishnetwork.com/departmental_content/techportal/index.shtml.
