I would double and triple check that info. It'd be a first.

From your description of your needs, one Genie and one other DVR should be just fine.

Sorry, but this is not true. DirecTV only allows ONE Genie per account. You can have a Genie plus other DVRs, but you can't have more than one Genie.

if that si the case than i probaly would not get direct. there would be a major conflict with recording even the one genie and 1 hd dvr,WE just record to many different shows.right at this moment the 2 hoppers I have do the trick. will just have to think long and hard before i decide to make the jump.

One way to look at it is how many shows just HAVE to be recorded at the same time? And after recording, how long after before you usually watch them?

Remember virtually all 'cable' type channel shows are rerun many times, even the most popular are run at least twice and that generally on the same night at a later time.

Broadcast channels and live sports are really the only things that can cause serious never-get-recorded contentions.

You can have up to 16 tuners (reasonably, actually more but it gets challenging). Get a Genie (5 tuners), plus additional DVRs as desired until you get the number of tuners you need. So a Genie plus 5 DVRs would give you 15 tuners. And unlike the Hopper, these can record any channel or combination of channels, not just your locals.

    two hoppers = 6 tuners

one genie and one dvr = 7 tuners.

Sure PTAT, but how much do you record at once during prime time? If its on a cable network its on twice at least usually.

And theres nothing keeping you from having one genie and 2 HR2xs which would give you 9 tuners to use on anything, or even 3 hr2xs with a genie to give you 11 and so on... The only setback is the additional location fees, if you only need two outlets in the first place.

    Things to simply consider.

But there's no chance you'll get two genies right now, so Id take my time considering.
