real low budget
That can be good. Often times, shorts are excellent pieces of work, but don't appeal to the ma$$es. The Oscars even have Shorts categories.
I'm surprised you didn't get more replies to this. But I have to agree, why do we have to rely on a third party person (Sixto) to use "home made electronic equipment" (I apologize if that is not the right terminology) to find out what the channel is?
I mean no disrespect toward SR or Sixto.
Yeah but 24/7? Dear God NO!
Directv has apparently confirmed on their Facebook page that it is ShortsHD coming on May 4th.
You are discussing illegality and giving an example on ethics. If I want a second cookie, I will ask for a second cookie. But even if I take a second cookie without asking, it still is not "illegal". They are all free samples. Unless they expressly forbid taking a second cookie, there is certainly nothing illegal with taking a second one. They are offering a free sample cookie with the intention of enticing you to buy that brand of cookie. Have you ever taken a sample cookie (even one) with absolutely no intention of ever buying that cookie? Would you consider that illegal as well? I certainly hope not.
The HD Extra Pack is the same basic scenario. Offering a free sample in hopes of getting you to subscribe. Maybe you took the sample, decided it wasn't worth it and walked away. Maybe you took the sample, weren't sure it was worth it, and decided to take another sample. Maybe you figured out how to game the system and decided to take as many free samples as you could get away with before someone stopped you. Regardless of which scenario you chose, none of them is illegal. If you have a moral dilemma with taking something that is offered for free, then don't take it. But don't accuse anyone else of breaking the law because you disagree.
In my own case, I have taken the free offer a few times as they add new channels to the package, never found it worth the extra five dollars, and have cancelled each time. As they add more channels, maybe I will eventually find it worth the extra money and subscribe full time. But I certainly have not broken any rules, laws, or even ethic as far as I am concerned, by participating in the free promotion more than once.

BloombergTV started up in HD Monday. I'd love to receive the upgrade.
Believe me, while the Talking Heads on the network channels, etc. wander off to weddings and game shows, even the business channels carry more legitimate news.
And you think THIS is a "festivus"?
I think it's seriously time to put the term "Festivus" to bed if the term is going to apply to utter crap like ShortsHD being added to a national HD line-up that has seen almost nothing added of note in the last year.
Really, really pathetic...
So is your dramatics.
Festivus is in December. This is a May Pole.
Yes, but this is a good thing.... The stars and directors behind these short films are generally very creative and passionate with their productions..... Definitely very different and unique stories versus the more commercial mass appeal titles out in the theaters....
Also, this is no "You Tube"-quality type channel... The film prints are crisp and most look every bit as good as the major releases....The channel has a nice aesthetic to it, interstitials and all....
Give it a chance.... You may be surprised to discover something you never thought you would like....It certainly adds more depth to DirecTV's movie line-up given that you can't find this product on any of the other movie channels....
That would be a basic channel, so we're not going to see it anytime soon.
Woo..Shorts... whoopie doo.
Dont call it a festivus unless its a channel someone actually wants.
Guess I have to hope that AMC and BBCA get added sometime later in may, and its not just skinimax month...
If it's shorts hd, will anyone add it to their favorites list?
Nobody actually said it's ShortsHD. That's just speculation...why I don't know.
I will. It will fit in well with the movie channels that make up 99% of my viewing.
How do they justify adding Shorts HD and not IFC HD or Sundance HD? I mean if they want more 'out there' independent films and the like, go with a more well known name.
I'll give it a chance... an HD channel is an HD channel... but I just think the order in which they add certain channels is a little odd.
I wish all of the DirecTV employees would go on strike until new basic HD is added. What would direcTV be without installers, call center operators, software programmers, facilities personal, warehouse personal, etc...
It's the customers that have to go on strike before anything happens. Seriously, Shorts HD? And it's in the HD Extra Pack? And future additions to once again be premium channel exclusive. 'Scuse me while I no longer give a rat's ass.
