I'm sure its something useless as is most of the extra pack....whatever it is, won't cost me any more money.

Hallmark Movie Channel and Crime & Investigation are simulcast channels... Well, HMC is... C&I is available on U-Verse in SD as well.

Hallmark Movie Channel was available in SD YEARS before they launched an HD channel. Multiple providers carry the SD channel... and some carry both, but the channel does not broadcast exclusively in HD. In fact, the HD simulcast channel is supposedly free to those who carry the SD channel... In fact, the first time I read that HMC was coming to DirecTV, it said that an agreement was reached for both the SD and HD channels.

If it's indeed true, I'll be looking at June for a potential Festivus... There's not many HD Extra channels I'd consider worthy of a Festivus... and ShortsHD isn't one of them... :(

You did not actually think they would add something #1 from the list of wanted channels or #2 something that didnt cost extra, did you??

We were supposed to get it months ago then something fell through. It may very well be Shorts.

ShortsHD is a channel dedicated to short films.

I'd like to have the channel, but unlike fearNET (for instance) or many of the simulcast channels we're missing, it's not something I'm going to get excited over.

I'm hoping we're wrong, and it's fearNET... or even Funimation.

I wouldn't mind Funimation, but they better not get rid of Anime Network On Demand in favor of Funi like Comcra... er, Comcast did!

Here's a theory of why it may really be SHORTS-HD:

DISH added Shorts-HD on April 19, 2010.... DirecTV's official magazine announced Shorts-HD was coming in November 2010 on Channel 568 in the HD Extra Pack.... DISH lawyers cried foul because there's a 12 month exclusivity window granted to DISH to launch this relative newcomer....

Next Wednesday May 4th the 12 month exclusivity window is no longer in effect (as it expired on April 19, 2011) and DirecTV can now carry the channel finally... Just a theory, though ... We'll find out soon enough...

The fee is still there. New (and select existing) customers get it waived by a promotion, but most existing customers are still paying it.

What they are trying to say is that these channels are only on directive I hd,not that they only exist in hd. You cA find some of them in ad elsewhere..

I'll get the channel no matter what too but that doesn't mean I can't make a value judgement that a channel that shows original programming or programming you can't get elsewhere adds more to my options than a fourth or fifth movie channel step sister. Also in my post I did say I thought Cinemax subscribers should get more channels I just also added that I thought basic subscribers should get more too.

As for the nonsense that only some people realize that all channels are paid for, if choice or choice extra only subscribers weren't paying for their subscriptions they would complain less about DirecTV's focus on premium customers. Your comment shows the real disconnect here. People pay for their television based on what they can afford and what they want to watch, yet both DirecTV and some forum members act like that "basic" subscribers aren't paying anything. I also suspect that many "basic" only subscribers are keenly aware that the channels they do subscribe to have a cost, in some cases more than premium subscribers do.

As for my "fanboy" comment, I meant to set up a juxtaposition between "whiners" and "fanboys." I thought it was funny that DirecTV own actions seem to confirm the "whiners'" beliefs. In any case, I don't consider you a "fanboy" (not that you need my approval.) There is a difference between liking something and never seeing anything wrong with it.

Then you must already love the HD Extra Package (as do I) because MGM and Sony show lots of movies never available in HD before, many never even on DVD, and some probably never even on VHS.
