To get our hopes up for something good, so we can all be disappointed later?! Just kidding... :D

Again, inclusion in the HD Extra package does not mean it is an HD-only station, it only means that DirecTV doesn't carry it in SD... and DirecTV wanted somewhere to stick it.

You honestly believe it is immoral to take advantage of an offer that a multi-billion dollar corporation freely provides to you? Holy crap...

It's not like this is some huge secret only talked about in dimly lit rooms off a creepy back alley in the bad part of town if you know the secret password.

This has been posted many, many times here and many other places on the web. DirecTV has people that read postings here and elsewhere on the web, I have to believe they have seen this posted at least once if not many times. I also have to believe after they saw it posted they reported it to their superiors. DirecTV still allows it to happen. To me that means DirecTV doesn't really care about this loophole enough to fix it and therefore it is fine to take advantage of it until DirecTV decides that it is a problem and puts an end to it.

How is this any different from those of us who call up every year and ask for a discount on Sunday Ticket, or Extra Innings? If DirecTV didn't want to allow those discounts to be given out they have the ability to stop it. But evidently they have decided that it is not a big enough issue to them so they haven't.

Companies do stuff like this all the time. Some people pay full sticker price for a car, some deal with the salesman for a lower price, is that illegal or immoral? Same thing with electronics and furniture, some people pay full price, some don't.

According to DirecTV's website, the HD Extra pack is "a special group of channels that broadcast exclusively in HD". IIRC, other than Hallmark, none of the channels have an SD equivalent anywhere.

    Because that's what D* does!

This place amazes me sometimes. I come here often and listen to people who constantly complain about channels not being added. Then when we find out a channel or two will be added, everyone complains about the channel being added, and no one even knows what that channel is!

I swear some people just live to complain!:confused:

One of the channels should convert "The Greatest American Hero" TV series into HD.

Except that isn't true. Can't speak for all of them, but Hallmark broadcats in SD.

EDIT: Oops, guess I should read the entire post before replying.

They are exclusively available in HD on DirecTV, DirecTV does not carry them in SD. You have to have HD equipment to watch the channels.

That does not mean they channels are not available in SD on other providers. As was pointed out many providers have Hallmark Movie Channel in SD. Comcast here in Peoria only carries in in SD, they do not carry the HD channel. I believe Dish Network carries both the SD and HD channel.

He meant anywhere, not DIRECTV. Hallmark is available on other providers in SD.

Perhaps a good time for a reality check.

A Festivus is a Festivus - it all really comes down to who gets satisfied/serviced by the additions.

I suspect all those with either the HBO/Cinemax package and/or HD Extra Pack customers have something to look forward to as new added HD content.

For everyone/anyone else - 1) you have the choice of either being happy for those who are getting something new or 2) continue to hope for your piece of the pie in the future.

If history is any teacher...that second option is usually accompanied by a wide range of everything from folks asking for other personal preferences to "vigorous discussions" that their preferences aren't there yet.

I suspect no one will change that experience, as evidenced by this thread in its short existence. :D

We now return you to your regularly scheduled HD channel preference battlefront

I just looked and those two channels do have an SD equivalent but the SD versions aren't carried by DirecTV.

Maybe not as exclusively HD as they would like us to think...

Jeez, are we starved for more HD channels or what? Over 6800 views and 170 posts in less than one day about one new channel?

The HD Extra package started out just as they stated. Odds are, they've just never thought to change the wording as the package grew (and changed)...

Negotiations are currently ongoing between DirecTV programmers and the HD Extra Pack to determine if they should fix this ability for customers to drop/add the HD Extra Pack and receive the channels for free for 3 months.

The most recent word from the table has been "soon"

Remember, "It takes two to tango."

Call me immoral, but I'm currently getting the HD extra package for free. On my most recent phone conversation with a Directv CSR, I was told that he would give me credit for it on my current bill and to cancel it after 3 months on the website and sign up again. That was the first I ever heard of anyway to get it for free. So you are saying I should not do what the CSR told me to do?

As always, nothing is ever Free....they just pass the expense on in another fee of some kind. Our bill does go up every Feb if they add channels or not.
