I am trying to hook up a DirecTV satellite system in my 5th wheel. I have a Wineguard travler model SK-3005 directv slim line antenna. I connected the coax inside to a PI-21 power inserter and then into my HR34-700 reciever. The reciever does not have an access card yet. I get an error 775, problem communicating with dish. Do I need any other equipment to make this system work?

try clean dish setting - disconnect coax cable and run setup on HR34; then connect coax and reboot DVR - run new setup

If it's a regular SK-3005, it's not an SWM dish. You need two cables to the HR34, and do NOT need a power inserter.

How do I attach two cables to the HR34. It only has one coax in.

Did they make a SWM and a non SWM version with the same model number? When I google SK-3005 it says it is a SWM. It also says not to use a PI-21, to use a PI-29.

Like all Genies, the HR34 is swm compatible only.

So maybe your issue is you're using a 21 and not the 29?

Does your antenna when you turn it on complete a successful search of the satellites?

    It finds 101 and 119, not 110.

Normally a 21 volt model is all you need for a swm lnb, maybe there is something different about this variety.

Yes, there are two models. You obviously have the SWM one. And mea culpa yes the HR34 is SWM only.
It will probably not find 110 since that sat has been "redirected" to cover Puerto Rico.
So can't find SWM usually means there is no power to the SWM power inserter, or it isn't connected correctly

Ok. I think I have it figured out. I have a slimeline dish with a sl5 4 wire lnb. This is not swm. I just ordered a new sl5 swm 1 wire lnb with built in multiswitch. Installing this along with the pi-29 should allow me to use the hr34 receiver. Am I correct?

I would call Winegard to find out if you can do that.

If I remember correctly you have to stay with that LNB and get a SWM 16 in order for it to work with the Genies. It needs the old LNB to be able to automatically aim the dish at the satellites.

Unless your dish is 'hot', call Winegard. They will walk you through what you need to do or add to your system.

If the OP is a member of the IRV2.com which is a RV forum you could ask the question there. I have the new Winegard Trav'ler SWM3 dish, so I can't help any. Ask the question in the Technologies section. There use to be a member there that worked for Winegard and he could most likely help.

As noted, the HR34 requires an SWM input. There are two ways to do that. One is to use an SWM LNB/dish. The other is to use a non-SWM LNB/dish that has four coax outputs, feed that to an SWM8 or SWM16 multiswitch, then feed the output of the multiswitch to the HR34. As far as the HR34 is concerned, either approach will work. I do not know about the Winegard dish, one post above indicates you need to use the SWM multiswitch to get it to work properly.
