Can anybody give me the dimensions of the mounting plate for a slimline?

    http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?PROD=DTV-AT9JMOUNT - i believe it's this one.

Need to get some shims for the deck mount because of trim.

The mounting plate is 9" long and 6 inches wide. Hole to hole centers are 7-7/8 long and 4-15/16 wide. It needs to be bolted to a SOLID surface, and you need two monopole support arms.

It really depends on which manufacture the tech has. There are 2 or 3 all close, but not the same in size or hole pattern/placement.

their deck has an 2x10 (or so) and in the middle has a 1x4 trim/decorative piece. In order for the mount to fit, I need to nail up some strips on top and below the 1x4 - I presume that's "solid" enough? Ultimately it will be bolted to the 2x10 - the shims are just to eliminate the gaps.

I have my dish mounted on a 2x10 fascia and it was plenty big enough. I think you can do what you're proposing without any trouble. You still will need the monopole support.

I'd look at removing the trim piece in that area rather then putting shims in there that could shift over time.
