    Well.... yes and no.

It is a duplicate in the sense that what it shows, is either on the other 6 channels as well, or has been on the other 6 channels. They only thing that is different, is that the national network offers the programming available on the other networks on different times, so in that regard it is a full fledged 7th station with its own schedule..... but nothing you see on the national channel can't be seen on one of the 6 regionals.

Not entirely true, DMAs with two teams (NYC/SF Bay Area) will also have the 2nd game of a double header blacked out if the home team is on the opposing network that week. ie-Fox has the doubleheader game 49ers are out of town (and the early game), Raiders are home playing an AFC team--Fox can't show the 2nd game of the doubleheader.

That's why places like LA sometimes say they don't want teams back because they get all the games being offered each week.

If the price is low enough then why not? The bandwidth will already be used and costing cash.

Since Comcast is only offering it in the footprint, offering it nationwide should be a deal Pac 12 makes w/Directv. Access is important.

Hey if this doesn't get settled, ad rates will suck as well. Remember the true sports fan is already on Directv due to Sunday Ticket. Advertisers know this and ad rates will fall big time.

From an email reply right now from Direct's escalation folks - note the bold area, encouraging news.

My email referenced the fact that they keep saying they'll have an updated response as the school year approaches. Some schools, I believe, are in session or will be come Monday, so I pushed a little on that "update as the school year approaches."

"I apologize if you believe we have not fulfilled your request regarding the status of the Pac-12 Network being available on DIRECTV. Your business is appreciated and we recognize you are a loyal customer.

You have been provided the most up-to-date information we have available. We are only able to confirm DIRECTV and the Pac-12 Network are in negotiations. Please note, our intention is to obtain a contract with the station so we can satisfy our customer's requests.

Your account is not currently under an agreement; should you choose to disconnect there would be no cancellation fee applied. If this is the option you choose, you may contact our Customer Service Department at 1-800-531-5000 to set up the account disconnection and all disclosures will be discussed at that time.

    Sincerely,

    XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
    DIRECTV Customer Advocate Team"

I think every one needs to make their own inquiries to the CEO's escalation folks. CustAdvocFollowUp@directv.com is their email address. They have a phone number as well that I need to figure out what it is again and post it.

Oh, yes, don't give LA two teams, then.

The timing of non-game programming is not important. It is the games that important. It is a duplicate if you have the six regionals.

And maybe your last point is the issue. But I doubt it as they are not REQUIRING any system to carry the national channel. Or any channel outside the home markets.

I think dtv is after the national for everyone in choice extra, and all the regionals in the sports pack, regardless of location.

Maybe. We won't ever know who wanted what. We will only know what we get.

Today could have been a break-through day, but we got the same redundant news as usual. No new information = bad day for our progress.

Not saying there's no hope, but the chances grow higher that we won't have this network in our homes by the turn of the month (Aug. to Sept).

If it's not in test by tomorrow, then I think it's safe to say that we will not have the channel by opening night next Thursday. There are 2 games that night.

A deer has antlers, and a dog has fleas, but if DirecTV doesn't have Pac-12 by Aug. 30, then they're gonna lose a lot more customers (more of a net loss) than they lost last quarter. DirecTV is trending downward on their net gain situation, because they're going through a net loss (in customer base).

They're underestimating their sports market crowd.
This isn't something to joke around in, like a Turkish bath house.
Nothing "Directs" customers to DirecTV ... more so than sports hungry customers. And the moment they start directing sports customers away from them, is the moment their net loss becomes an even deeper "compounding" hole. Month by month, DirecTV falters, and more in that hole.

There are plenty of customers that hunger for Pac-12 sports, while others thirst for it, and then there are still many others on top of that are significantly intrigued by it. Seven networks, the sports fans want it. If DirecTV doesn't have this network by Aug. 30, then they're a damn fool (as a collective company).

So direct customers to you in addition to retaining your sports customers, or direct customers away from you. At DirecTV, you can pull customers toward you from the Turkish bath house. Or you can send your customers to the Turkish bath house for them to be pulled away by competition.

    So what's it gonna be?
    Deal or no deal?

    Get with the program DirecTV.
You don't want to piss off your strongest base.
You want to rally them, and confirm to them why they chose DirecTV in the first place.

    Aug. 30th.
    BE THERE. HAVE IT.
or you get throated by your most hungry of customers to the darkside of competition.

    Yes, we LOVE SPORTS.

Have they not gotten the message?

    Did they get that memo?
They still seem to be having problems with the cover sheet on their TPS reports.

You're overly dramatic - other than football and basketball VERY little people care about the other sports. Also, even a whole lot less care about horrible matchups week 1. Look at what's on Opening night...

Northern Colorado at Utah or No. 9 South Carolina at Vanderbilt? Easy choice what people will watch.

The real teams are on real channels - USC (FX) & Oregon (ESPN).

You may be right about opening night...but if D* doesn't have the San Jose State mismatch against Stanford on Friday, this SJSU grad who lives in Dallas and his SJSU grad son who lives in Chicago will be terribly upset. :):)

p.s. @BusterAvis...you forgot "the sky is falling..."

Sigma, with much respect.... I must say the drama is funny...

We need a little humor to mute our anxiousness with this whole Pac12- Directv thing..
