And seven channels does that how?
So much for the Pac-12 Network and DirecTV coming to terms. According to a source who is knowledgeable to these situations, it doesn't look as if either side has come to the table in time for the beginning of the season. They even referrence this web site.
It goes on to say that DIRECTV generally uplinks a channel for testing on Wednesday morning before 6am Pacific Time if a deal to carry that particular channel were imminent. Testing generally lasts 1 week before the channel is released to paid subscribers.
So much for the Pac -12 Network for opening week. Looks like I'm going to a friends house who has CABLE to watch the game. what a shame
here's the link to the story: http://www.pacifictakes.com/2012/8/24/3264004/pac-12-network-directv-deal
I am a former "west coaster" who still enjoys following the PAC-12. I am not aligned with any one team. For me, the BTN model works. That is, a national network with alternate channels setup when there are concurrent live games. It happens early in the season with football and more so with basketball.
That format allows me to choose which live game most interests me. I understand where an alum of a particular school would want a channel that is devoted to their school. But I feel that after the initial glut of "classic" games things will stabilize and one national channel will be able to handle the classics.
This format is obviously to DirecTV's advantage when it comes to bandwidth.
Pretty weak. Basing news of a contract negotiation on Sixto's test channel monitoring? Dumb, dumb, dumb. Then passing it off as news of how close a deal is?
One thing that I have learned being a DirecTV customer...PATIENCE. There is seldom a SURE thing...and "never say never" is always in play.
Like everyone here, I want the network in place for next week...and I do know one thing for sure...it will or it won't be here.
I couldn't agree more.. This person was just making deadlines and writing BS.
OK, I love College Football. I really want this to happen with Directv.. If only for this...
BTW, this is my daughter back in 2008
All of this strengthens my point of having game only channels for all sports and letting the professional leagues and NCAA be responsible for providing them to ALL providers. Having to carry all of these old and new RSNs 24/7 is getting to be too expensive for the providers, especially if they continue to create new ones. If the sports fans want sports they will pay for them, let us decide. If they can do it with movies then they can do it with sports.
What, exactly, of that post is nonsense?
Really, the USC and WSU Brand???.. I love WSU, but this isn't even close.. WSU can get stronger but not even close to the other major Pac 12 schools.. Hey, no debating this ... PAC 12 = Conference of Champions.. It evens the playing field! Enough said!
That discussion is pointless. Nothing except death is final.
There is not a single face of the PAC 12. It is the face of the individual areas. That strengthens those brands. In fact, USC will get even stronger as a brand because they will have even MORE eyeballs than the non-LA schools. Good thing they share revenue but WSU is relegated to Washington while USC will get the LA market and a big share of national time.
This doesn't happen in the Big Ten. All schools are available nationwide equally. That is building a brand for a conference.
This is just a money grab.
Discussing about whether 7 channels are needed.... is completely pointless and useless. Because PAC12 isn't going to change their model, it has already launched as such.
We could still argue a lot about how DirecTV is going to carry them, how many, in SD/HD, using what technology, etc, etc.... all that is completely up in the air. But discussing the model.... is pretty much a waste of time, unless you like to discuss hypothetical situations.
The 7 channels are here. Question now is whether DirecTV will carry them, and how will it carry them. Discuss that.
Yeah, this is a HUGE disappointment.
It takes a week or so for the channel to launch after testing.
Now that it's confirmed that they haven't tested the channel yet, you can forget about DirecTV having this network by the start of college football season.
Poor choice by DirecTV not to have this network already in place.
Stupid mistake on their part. What are they negotiating for that is extra gravy? It was already a profitable model for them and then some. Just sign it and be on with it.
They deserve to have another quarter with even more lost subscribers toward their net gain/net loss total, based on their sheer stupidity.
Cable is soon to become the leader in sports, pushing DirecTV to 2nd fiddle.
Cable is more toward conference network expansion, than DirecTV is.
Cable will at least be the college sports KING over DirecTV (if not already), and maybe in most major pro sports, outside of the NFL (certainly Cable will dominate DirecTV over NBA coverage and Lakers coverage).
And its all because DirecTV is sitting on their lazy ass.
Where is CSN Northwest from DirecTV?
Oh yeah, they don't have it, and never will.
Where is Pac-12?
Nope, don't have that either.
Good evening Buster "The Sky is Falling" Avis....
I keep thinking back to when Mike White said with a guarantee, "We will NOT have all seven networks. And I can assure you of that".
It looks like he really meant that.
I think that's what is holding everything up.
The Pac 12 wants all seven networks full-time on DirecTV.
DirecTV does not. They just want the "live" football games.
One network (full-time) at best (the national network) is all DirecTV wants in addition to the live football games.
This won't be done by Sept. 1.
Where is the network right now on DirecTV?
I turned on channel 626 on my box, and I get a blank screen.
What about your box?
Time for everyone that wants this channel to start calling your cable providers NOW.
You have less than 7 days now, to get that installed from your cable company.
You better call tonight.
And if DirecTV launches this channel miraculously without much testing by then, then you can cancel your cable appointment.
But at least get the cable install appointment started now.
@BusterAvis...your act is getting a little old. Why don't you take you and your agenda elsewhere...
I have a right to voice my opinion.
DirecTV falsely leaked "positive" (fabricated) information to Wilner and sources about how they will have this in place (to prevent customers from switching). Now they want customers to get past the point of no return to switch, by not being able to switch to cable in time by next Thursday. Smart but shady ploy by DirecTV, which is known to leak false information to social media. I know how this game works. We're all getting played like a fiddle by DirecTV.
@BusterAvis - I guess that I need to add paranoia and conspiracy theories to "The Sky is Falling." At least we now know your agenda.
