Of course the PAC-12 is popular. I never said they weren't. I just said the Big Ten and SEC are more popular. I also said I want DirecTV to carry the channel. I'm just not delusional in insisting DirecTV will lose a ton of subscribers if they don't just as they wouldn't lose that much if they stopped carrying BTN. And yes, if you just really have to have this network then you should probably call your local cable company and get an install date. :)

Ok, I respect that.. I took the stance of defensiveness when you called Webtraveler a Pac12 homer. I'm not so sure however that the Pac12 network doesn't impact subscription the way you might think. You go to every bar or restaurant and you will see they all use DirecTv. At some point, there is a demand just like the SEC or BIG 10. It's crazy and I hope to all things good and evil we get to watch Pac12 by next week. BTW, I like Nebraska too. No hard feelings..

Will I have to pay extra if I am on the PREMIER package? My bill does not have a line item for a sports package other than ST/RZ.

Thanks sir. I always root for any PAC-12 team as long as they aren't playing against Nebraska. Well, except USC. :)

And I too hope DirecTV and the PAC-12 reach an agreement.

FenixTX, you can have your opinion, I can have mine . If you don't like it then don't read it. That's your choice.

Regardless, on the west coast Directv will lose a LOT of subs. They have a pretty high penetration rate in many Pac 12 markets.

The thing in this situation is the alternatives. Bars outside the PAC 12 footprint aren't going to get PAC 12 network games anyway or at the most one channel and maybe in SD.

The bars within PAC 12 territory still want all the other games only directv gives so they may need to get two services. A lot do anyway.

The doom and gloom for directv without the PAC 12 is overrated because the alternatives aren't all that good.

It is doom and gloom for me as I have no other way to see these games.

I hate to break it to you, but besides USC & Oregon (who are both on real networks week 1), no one really cares about the Pac12 outside of the west. In football, the SEC rules the nation with the Big 12 & Big Ten right behind. In basketball, the ACC, Big 10 & Big East run the show with Big 12 and SEC right behind.

Other sports don't really matter financially.

Individually, yes. I was speaking of the bar argument.

Sigma, You're not telling me anything I don't already know.. I love the Pac 12 but would love the access like Sunday Ticket. That's my point. Let's just get this done already.. Right??

All the bickering back and forth about subs lost could be very real. DirecTV has a great market on the West Coast, the other large player(s) are TWC and Comcast. That is the danger to DirecTV, customers have someone they can go to in the market that offers the channel. Go back and forth about who is more popular all you want, on the West Coast it is a Pac12 market, every major DMA Denver west hast at least one school in their market or crosses over into a PAC market. Hopefully this week we get the good news and can put this behind us and enjoy the channel and let the bickering go on to some other channel request.

Where I am most people couldn't tell you what the channel number for the BTN is, outside of PAC football the SEC is the other conf that gets major coverage. College basketball isn't really a factor, NBA drives the markets here, those are the teams people watch.....which is why DirecTV will also feel pressure soon for the Lakers network.

OK/// you look at a political map and the States that make the most impact are either on the West Coast or East Coast. Why after all these years people still consider the Pac 12 a step child? All along the west coast, people want to watch their sports. Why are discussing this??? SEC is Great. Big 10 is Great.. Pac 12, is incredible. All we want is access.

DirecTV lost subscribers for the first time ever last quarter, and they're going to take another hit if they don't pick up the P12Net. All of the major markets in the west coast footprint have cable options in place (Los Angeles, San Francisco/Oakland, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver and Salt Lake), and the fans out here want it badly. We're hungry for more as we've been undervalued for years. Those that follow other conferences just don't understand what PAC fans have been going thru for the past quarter-century, the Tom Hansen years.

And there are some significant factors as to why D* has to get this done. In addition to needing to hang onto customers in the Pac-12 footprint, the P12Net will not be built on third-tier games, rather it will rotate the top-three picks each week with ABC/ESPN and FOX/FX, so they'll have one of the three best games every week, and the best game every three weeks. This will be significant once conference play starts.

And the Pac-12 has something other conferences don't have....Los Angeles, the No. 2 TV market and the home of USC, UCLA and DirecTV. TWC already has both Pac-12 Los Angeles and the national network in HD, and also provides TV Everywhere. They're also launching the new Lakers RSN in the fall. DirecTV stands to bleed a lot of customers to TWC if they don't get both deals done. You cannot understate the presence DirecTV has in the Los Angeles market.

They also stand to gain customers, especially if they carry the regionals. There are fans all over the country that have no other options, and there are fans that want more than the national network, or will want the national network in HD.

Questions: if Directv had to pick ONE network, P12 Net or the Lakers new DMA, who do you think they will choose?? AND Which fans will leave the fastest that the D CANT AFFORD TO LOSE???

You aren't, but there are a lot of Utah fans that can only get DirecTV or Dish and want to watch their favorite team play Northern Colorado this Thursday. Unless a miracle happens, they will miss the game, and maybe every single Pac 12 Network game.

    Somewhere...
I don't see the lakers network getting added without the complete cost past on to that market. I.E. It is a seperate station that isn't included in any package for in market customers.

I'm all for adding everything possible because I want choices...including the P12 Network. I want The Longhorn Network pretty bad, but know it's a dumb idea of a channel. I hate having to find crappy streams of 2 UT games.
