It is NOT an embarrassment. You have no idea what the PAC-12 is asking for. How do you know that the transmission requirements being asked for will only have a "little" impact to the cost. Worth is a very broad economic term. What is worth it to you is largely irrelevant to D*.

I don't care what they're asking. I just want to be able to watch these games. It's a travesty that DirecTV won't just give the PAC 12 fans what we want.

So you don't think my 25 1/2 point underdog San Jose State Spartans have a chance against Stanford? Just because they lost 57-3 last year...well, maybe you have a point there. :)

I get to watch my alum, University of North Texas, on ESPNU get thrashed by LSU this week. Want to trade opponents?

So, what if they offered it as a separate tier at $250 a year? Would you buy it?

Plus for Cal fans this is the opening of the rebuilt Memorial Stadium, a long process that included the "tree sitters." Many Cal fans have been pointing to that game for yours as the hopeful rebirth of the football program.

I am disappointed that DirecTV felt there wasn't value in these games. I received an email from D* in response to the PAC12 channel that basically said "......while we don't have the Pac12 channel, we will have the games that matter in the national championship chase." I found this rather dismissive of them to say to Pac12 fans, basically saying the teams we watch and root for don't matter. I hope this battle between them ends soon and they can work it out.

I knew at least one person would say that ...
    What about $1000 or 2k or 3k a year.

The point is, the myopic idea that it is simply up to D* to pay whatever the PAC-12 is asking is patently ridiculous.

I agree, there is definitely a red line there. Plus, selling a package as PPV or Premium subscription is a whole different ballgame. PAC12 isn't the "HBO of west coast college sport".

I wouldn't pay $5 extra for PAC12 myself. I want the channels for field hockey, soccer and some other non-revenue sports, NOT for football or basketball. But I can perfectly fine live without them, plus.... I have a Time Warner Cable account from a family member if I really want to catch a game I will just use that.

That wasn't a valid point. Fort Directv to be so dismissive in their email about only carrying the games that had National Championship interest is counterproductive the the interests of those in the Pac12. Last year I got to watch 8 games on Root Sports and now what? This just plain sucks. So fun, I get to hear my neighbors scream up and down they get the BIG 10 channel. Very Lame.

Lastly, I think at some point, I will suffer through Comcrap so I can get the programming that is important to me.. I know I'm one small speck, but eventually Directv may realize instead of capitalizing on this chance, they lost the people who switch from Direrctv and dish.. Real bummer

This is the invalid point. The only thing D* will gain is a bigger bill. It will have very little, if any, impact on increased subscribers. Yes, you are a small blip as am I. Remember I want the channels as well. However, the economic reality is that the PAC-12 seems to be asking for a distribution model that doesn't make financial sense to D*. There is no getting around that. Why don't you petition the PAC-12 to lower their price and carriage demands?

I just read this, don't know if it is true..

If the PAC-12 and the schools are so stubborn to turn down the original deal DIRECTV put on the table, then the PAC-12 is welcome to sit out a year. The details of the “take it or leave it” deal is below:

DIRECTV will carry PAC-12 Network National ONLY 24/7 on Channel 626, with alternate channels turned on only during overflow football games. All other overflow events will be streamed at PAC-12.com via authenticated access. PAC-12 National will be on Choice Xtra in the 6 PAC-12 states (WA, OR, CA, AZ, UT, CO) and Sports Pack elsewhere.

I know a lot of posters in this topic think this is what Directv should do. It might be best for Directv but the Pac 12 will never ever go for that and will sit out the year and more IMO. They made this channel with the idea to make money but also get more exposure for the Basketball and other sports of the Pac 12. Each school will get around 30 million each without Directv. I believe if this is Directv's last offer it will never be on Directv then. The Pac 12 will make deals eventually with everyone else except maybe Dish and even Dish might get onboard if Pac 12 made a sweetheart deal for them just to get at Directv.

    daytona...

the blog was written by wilner and doesn't appear to mention the above. he did quote the letter the pac 12 wrote regarding directv customers. i'm curious where you read or heard the above info.

i have this channel with cable (bright house). the pq is so bad i can't watch it. i would be better off watching online.

Well then I would make the switch for Basketball, Womens Volleyball and of course College Football and just watch NFL at the local watering hole. Sucks, but damn that sucks.. I picked Directv because they did have the best sports, at least for my interests. Oh well, enough complaining I'll wait out another couple of weeks and then decide.
