At the moment, the major networks out of NY are not on a spotbeam - even for in market subscribers. But that is very likely to change when distants are disabled.

What is on the spot beam are the non major network locals for NYC and LA. As James said that is subject to change. The HD's OTOH will probably stay on CONUS for some time, seeing how they are on a different bird (however if that different bird is 61.5 they could put the HD's on the VOOM bird which has spot beams. 129 is a different story. Any market with HD locals on 129 will stay quasi-full CONUS (since it's footprint does not hit the N.E. or S.E.

I was only there one time - in 1977. the water tasted like it was recycled from a washing machine (i.e. the chlorene level was HIGH).

That is not typical of NYC water. It is common in some of the surrounding areas.

If the person sho started this thread wants to move to NYC or Boston then really move there. It is partially because DISH made no attempt to see if people were really eligible for there locals/distants before 2000, that they are being forced to loose distants for those that are eligible. I would hate to see the next round where dish gets hit with and loses the ability to show locals because of this kind of thing.

My move to NY had such a great result that I only wonder why I waited so long to do it. I hope that Conus on 61.5 doesn't end any time soon. Are the expectations otherwise just theory?

Pretty much. R1 has spotbeams but to put them into use would take some work (building an uplink near NYC). The SDs will likely leave ConUS, but not the HDs.

Thanks. The NY HD is all I'm really worried about and it's looking great. They even have some nice looking local news in HD.
