Gotta say, until recently I was unaware of MSG and while it's all well and good for you all to want it, I don't quite get the hubbub.

Here in the NYC Area we are constantly seeing IO Digital Cable Advertisements stating that IO is the ONLY PLACE to see ALL THE HD TELECASTS OF ALL 9 MAJOR NY AREA TEAMS. I don't believe MSG HD/FSN NY HD will be on satellite/FIOS in the near future at least. That is why I also subcribe to IO Digital.

And that's why I do not and will not. Out of stubborn principle of the thing. I'm a huge die-hard NYR fan, but no way am I ditching DirecTV or paying extra for Cablevision.

For me it was pure econonmics and quality. IO would cost me more money over the run of my 2 year commitment (almost down to 1 year now). But this has always been CVs MO, protect what they own at the expense of their viewers. Before they owned MSG they tried like heck to prevent it from showing up in basic cable to protect Sportschannel which they OWNED which was on a pay tier. Now they OWN MSG HD which they will try to bilk as much money as they can until they finally agree to let D* carry the channel. This to me, is the reason I think that system PROVIDERS such as CV / TW etc. should not be allowed to be content providers as it's a conflict of interest and bad for the consumer.

    Stuart -

Let's put it in local perspective.

LA/Anaheim is roughly the same as New York - 2 baseball teams
IIRC 2 basketball teams (Lakers, Clippers, right?)
One hockey team (there's a difference - the NY Metro Area has 3)

Now imagine if TWC (which recently picked up most of the LA/SoCAL cable franchises) were a local instead of national carrier.
And they also owned the Clippers and the Ducks.....and the building(s) they play in.
And the network that broadcasts them....and another RSN - let's call it Fox Sports LA for this exercise.

So - they own the teams, and the buildings, and the network(s) that broadcast them, and the local cable system that carries the broadcasts......

    That's the Dolan's Cablevision Systems.
They own the building: Madison Square Garden (as well as Radio City Music Hall...)
They own the Knicks and the Rangers
They own the network - also called MSG - as well as FSNY (which coincidentally broadcasts the NY Islanders...)
And they own the predominant cable provider in the area (which covers most of Long Island, a lot of New York City (but not all), all of the affluent Northern Suburbs (Westchester, South/West Connecticut) and a good chunk of the West of Hudson 'suburbs' in New Jersey, Rockland and Orange Counties of New York).

Maybe you knew all this and it's redundant - if so I apologize and just delete the post.

But for D* subscribers in this area - not being able to get your local teams in HD - when they've been broadcast by the controlling network in HD for several years - is very frustrating to say the least. As mentioned by others - it's typical Dolan extortion tactics......

    I believe that:
1 - since it was up in engineering mode (bschneider's information from late August) it's real
2 - since it has been listed on D*'s RSN team list (at least the Rangers) for several months, it's real
3 - since the logo appears on the new D* HD "splash screens" at the website, it's real - otherwise Cablevision would have thrown a fit (we've seen it from them before) and threatened a lawsuit for using their logo without permission.

Just a matter of working out all the contractual nonsense.

Of course, all of that could fall through - and they'd be forced to remove the logo.....(ugh, that's a horrible thought).

I'm not convinced yet it's real. CV has sworn over and over they'd never give HD to Satellite. But money DOES talk

One correction...there are TWO hockey teams in LA/Anaheim, the Ducks and the Kings.

Too early to remember both the Ducks and the Kings.... ;)

Like I said - if it wasn't at least close to being a done deal - there's no way CV would allow the logo to remain up on D*'s site. I admit that it could fall apart at a moment's notice.

    C'mon -- have faith!!!

There is now way on earth that Cablevision would ever allow D* to put that logo on their website unless a deal was in place and in my mind close to fruition. There would be an immediate lawsuit. I have no sources of information, but because that logo is on the website, I have to believe that the channel is coming soon.

You are right, it will be much better to watch the Sabres kick the Rangers A** in the playoffs again on the "real thing from Manhattan"

I'm hoping they can spotbeam the signal of MSGa-HD to Buffalo as we don't need YES-HD or SNY-HD spotbeams any more.

I'm a Rangers fan, I'm perpetually pessimistic!! Seriously, I've seen the Dolans screw us more times than I can count. The worst day in Rangers history was the day they bought the team!!

I guess I was talking trash, but I also was making a valid point. Anyways, I was just sticking up for Buffalo's little "small market affiliation"

P.S. Sabres fans didn't choose to be seventh fiddle on MSG, we were forced there because John Rigas is a criminal!

By "he", I presume you mean the aforementioned Mr. Dolan?

If so, I think you're right - I know people who would pay $39.95 for that event - just like they do for wrestling !!
