Probably nothing to do with D16 since it won't add any new capacity. I'd expect to see those channels moved off 119 when Directv shuts off MPEG2 SD sometime next year.

Really bummed about "Red Rock and Blues" going away with the switch to MC... Was a great channel that had the perfect mix of classic rock, blues and some honkey tonk-ish country. There's not a good one-to-one replacement on MC, Sirius or other services... *sniff*... that's a bummer.

DIRECTV has yet to be added among the TV providers list on the Music Choice site.

What is up with the low volume sound ? I have my TV sound on 10 and it is fine for watching normal TV. When I switch to the music channels I have to turn it up to 30 to get the same volume. I even turned on my AVR and had the same problem. I turned Dolby Digital OFF and there was no change.

Where is the slideshow artist trivia MC has on every cable system I've ever seen? The screen looks exactly like SonicTap. MC sounds a bit more compressed than ST on a high end audio system.....anyone else noticing that?

Also, just downloaded the iOS app and D* isn't listed so there is no way to log in to stream.

DirecTV only carries the audio and data streams for song data, they don't have video streams attached to the audio channels.

And don't hold your breath on seeing them, for one thing only the core 50 channels have video components, while Taste of Italy and Contemporary Instrumentals are audio only since on cable they're only provided to commercial subscribers. The rest of the "new" Music Choice channels don't have video components either, instead on cable they're delivered via the app streams over the internet and the display on all of the channels are interactve pages instead of the standard slideshow. Not to mention all the DirecTV exclusive channels we are getting that aren't even on providers that have the expanded "new" music choice lineup.

Plus DirecTV spreads them out so there's no more than 4 audio channels on each transponder, so they can't take advantage of how cable providers get them where all 50 core channels are on one QAM mux, they would have to re-encode them individually which would require additional 700 kbps video streams for each channel that has a video slideshow. So even if DirecTV shuffled things around to get past the bandwidth hurdle to add the video streams (which they won't for various reasons including how Puerto Rico gets their subset of channels on D5 via rebroadcasts of transponders on 101 and 119), only 47 of the 84 channels we get will have them. (See my post on the last page, only 47 since DirecTV doesn't carry Solid Gold Oldies, Stage & Screen and Hip-Hop Classics)

As for the iOS and Android apps, DirecTV just launched them last night, usually it takes at least several weeks before they have app authentication ready.

If you have a SiriusXM radio that gets the additional channels, check out 350 Red White & Booze

i didn't finish out the hour on my live countdown, something came up and have no idea what the last song was. i know it wasn't the last time for Sonic Tap but it was over for me, RIP.

Music Choice is playing more hits it seems but haven't spent enough time with it yet. i wish they would let us have a choice of all the music channels, i think it's silly that some music channels are backed out.

I have the Ultimate package, but I'm not receiving about a dozen of the new MC channels. Does anyone know why that would be, and more important, how to correct it?

Heh, "The Roots of My Raising" is a Merle Haggard album. ("Human" is from the 1986 album "Crash.") I assume this is an error in the Music Choice data, not a DirecTV issue.

Which ones aren't you getting? Some like Brazilian Pop, Italian Favorites, Classical Masterpieces and few others are Premiere only.

    oops, I do have Premier, but I don't have those. Channels 807, 824, 852, 853, 855, 861, 865, 870, 876, 877, 880-884 are not even on my receiver's All Channels lineup, but they are on the D* web guide.

Those are on the 119 slot and require a 5-LNB Dish to get them.

Nothing changed satellite slots with the move, so the channels that are mainly targetted for commercial subscribers and many of the Latino channels are still only on 119. (Prior to Sonic Tap being a thing, these channels weren't available to residential subscribers) They'll probably move to 101 next year when they convert everything to MPEG4.

Thanks for the info. If I get my SL3 dish replaced with a 5-LNB dish, will that fix it, or is it more involved?

Provided you don't have any line of sight issues (which you shouldn't in Newport Beach unless you have really tall trees or a building in that direction), all they need to do is replace the LNB.

I noticed the low volume too in some cases. Sounds like Directv needs to fine tune some of the channels. I recall similar issues when they first moved to Sonic Tap.

Nothing but a single but very tall palm tree and the horizon. I guess I need to deal with customer service now. Thanks again for your answers.

I thought it was coming the 20th. That’s a shame about the lack of slideshow. It isn’t any better than Sonic Tap. When it first came to cable in 2000-2001 era, it was just a black screen. I’m not sure how many years it took Cable to get video on music choice, but maybe it’s the same thing with DirecTV. Maybe in a few months or years they will add the slideshows.
