    switching as we speak...
But when it's switched fully (and Nagra1 shut-off completly) ... noone knows exactly but DISH... so no use asking....

My prediction ------> sometime this year....

Actually, between the week of April 4 - April 15, Dish Network will begin to swap, which is why we saw such a major ammount of new firmwares come out for older recievers, such as the 2700, 301.10, 4700, etc. These new revisions of Firmware will give warnings to customers who are still using the older Nagra1 cards that they need to swap to the new cards to receive the specific station (I believe the Adult stations will be first) after that date. Otherwise, they just get a new error box (350 or something like that).

Dish has already swapped out its HD Programming to Nagra2, and I believe in Canada the major swap is already underway, with the Adult, HDTV and Sports Content (Nascar, NHL and NFL) all swapped over, with the Cable Movie Networks (The Movie Network = HBO) next on the chopping block in a week or two.

Basically, those who are *in love* with N1 are no longer going to have *happy days*...

At the same time, I think that there are a lot of customers for Dish who still are N1, I know I am included in that and I am waiting for my new cards. If I start losing some of my stations Dish is going to hear it...

    not fully accurate...
What original poster asked was more like "when Nagra2 swap is completed" ...

at the same time, the statement: "between the week of April 4 - April 15, Dish Network will begin to swap" - is not accurate... - as as you said yourself "HD channels are already switched to Nagra 2" (which makes beginning of swap start previously)...

at the same time, it's reported ... that East Indian programming (or most of it anyhow), and now Pak TV, and Ari ones - switched to Nagra 2 also already (march 16 or march 23 or something like that) ...
With all the porn channels being switched in few stages in april (and basically all porn switched to Nagra 2 by the end of April)....

All this means - swap already has began.. and not specifically any certain week of April...

However as stated above.. with it's full completion date is really unknown.. (as was mentioned on one of the chats - "customers and retailers should not concern themselves with the swap.... that it's DISH's internal matter..and will progress gradually at scheduled internal Tempo" ;)

So that means that if someone has a receiver not activated on an account with a clear balance and a blue card should activate it to get the new card? I'd hate to have to pay $50 which is about all some of the used receivers are worth.l

    Darkman:

That is true, we knew about the HDTV, that was a while ago but I dont remember if they had those errors or not. In regards to the Pak TV and other Asian stations, they are gone as well. But the firmware upgrades for most of the recievers had already occured...

    Yeah,

That's why I am waiting to have them send me the yellow card for my 2800, before I deactivate it and will sell it. In the meantime, I'll keep the 2800 activated.

If I know the history of Dish, I would expect them to charge for a new card. I suspect that hey really want some of the older receivers like the 1000, the 3000, the 4000, the 5000, the 3700, the 4900 to become inactive with old cards. That way, they would not have to give the customer another receiver, like thay are doing with the 501 to replace the 2000. They really don't want the old 2000s back.

I'd say you're NOT going to get a new card for an inactive receiver - so if you want it - better activate .. or pay later...

The 4900's (like mine) HAVE got the F/W for the new cards. I plan on keeping mine active for a long time... just waiting on the new yellow card to show up.

Also, when Nagra 1 goes down, the secondary market for Dish receivers will improve. Those with yellow cards will be in demand. Those with blue cards will have little, if any, market value.

I am betting late August - September for the swap to be complete.

That is 100 percent correct. DISH has no idea if you even still own the receiver so they are not sending out cards for inactive receivers. If the receiver was active a few months ago (when the card swap list was compiled) you may get a new card but I would not count on it.

The only reason people want to know when E*is going full-time Nagra2, is so they can predict when there fta receiver will no longer get free stolen programming from E*!!!

Actually not true... I am very interested in the transition. It will be interesting to see what happens and how long the new tech can keep the pirates at bay. I am sure there are a lot of techies that are interested it in for technology's sake and others that want to see pirates suffer.

Like Mike I am interested in the switch from a technology point of view (it is part of my background in engineering).

Nagra 2 is not nearly as "simple" as Nagra 1 and even if it is cracked (which it very likely won't be for many years, at least not at the "hobbyist" level) the design is such that it will be able to be changed to keep the pirates at bay.

I think from a sociological standpoint that it is going to be more interesting to see what the pirate dealers do next. A lot of them are "sweating" already; their "free" ride and their illegal industry is about to come to an end.
