I will call them again and if I don't get a credit back, I will send a formal letter of dispute with my credit card company including a copy of the email AT&T sent me confirming receipt of my receiver. I returned the receiver with the access card inside, the remote, and the electrical boxes that the receiver plugged into. There is really no reason in the world that DTV should be charging me for non return of equipment.

Check with your Credit Card company. I had a charge show up on my account two months ago that wasn't mine. I was able to file the 'dispute' on line over a weekend; my card was credited back with the money two business days later. Very simple process.

The problem is that you have no legal protection unless you send a formal letter to the credit card company. DTV made the charges on my card, it was no mistake.

As I first said, check with your Credit Card company. My bank has an on-line form to fill out for a Visa dispute. Not required to submit a formal letter to be legally protected. Says so right on their web site. You have the option of sending a letter if you don't want to submit on-line, but when I submitted the on-line form, I received an immediate notification that my dispute had been received and being processed.

Thank you, greatly appreciated! This is a sad way to end over 20 years of service from DTV.

After my post above, I called DIRECTV and did not receive any discount offers once again so on September 10 I set a cancellation date of October 5. In August 2018 when I received the loyalty offer listed above for $65 off for 12 months with a 2 yr commitment (for 4k hardware and programming), the AT&T/DIRECTV representative assured me that I would still be eligible for similar loyalty discounts 1 year from my August 2018 renewal date even though my commitment to AT&T/DIRECTV was for 2 years. Even though I understood the 2-year commitment, I may not have agreed to it if I was told upfront it was unlikely I would get discounts in my second year. I was told at the time that a 16-year customer with A LOT of sports programming and a higher tier package would surely qualify for discounts.

After 5-6 calls in August and September of this year with no offers I kept being told to call back and something would show up in the system. Well, no loyalty offers were made so I set the cancellation date fully intending to cancel and move on before my October billing cycle.

I also opened a Better Business Bureau case stating that I believe was misled by AT&T/DIRECTV regarding the possibility of me getting similar discounts in my second year of the two year commitment which started in August 2019.

About one week after opening a BBB Case, I received a call from the AT&T Office of the President and they offered $60 off for one year, no additional commitment. I am still under contract until August 2020 which is no change from the contract I was already under. I really was ready to move on, but gave it one more shot.

It was interesting speaking to the person from the AT&T Office of the President. They asked me if I had been calling the Loyalty # to ask for discounts. After I said I was, she seemed surprised nothing was offered to me.

Anyway, I have one more year of DIRECTV service with a nice loyalty discount of $60 per month until next September. I wish it wouldn't have been so difficult, but ultimately I am happy with the service and the price.

I know some on this board will be appalled by this story because they love paying sticker price for all of their goods and services. :)

It seems like this may be the best option for everyone that has issues. I know I'm close to doing this but not over discounts.

I did call my credit card company and they said to send them copies of my dispute.
