Need help with something. Wondering if this can be done. Got a SL5 single wire from dish to splitter. Worked for awhile now with just HR20, HR24, H24 and 2 H25. I've gotten rid of the HR20.

Now, with a Genie, I'm getting the DIRECTV SWM-8 Single Wire Multi-Switch (8 Channel) (SWM-8). Can a single wire from the dish (the one using SL5 LNB) be used or do I have to have 4 cables from the dish? If one wire can be used, which input does it go into (from the dish to which?)? I do have a PI-29 and one SWS-8 and another on its way with the DIRECTV SWM-8 Single Wire Multi-Switch (8 Channel) (SWM-8).

Any help is appreciated. A diagram will be nice but I can't find anywhere with single wire from the dish, only four wires from the dish.

Will you now have a Genie plus your HR24, H24 and 2 H25? If so, you need a SWM-16 because you'll be over 8 tuners.

And anytime you use an external switch you need all hour lines from a LEGACY LNB

So, are you all saying I'll have no choice but to make my home looking uglier by having 4 cables from the dish to multiswitch? If so, that means ordering a different LNB (one with four cables). I'm spoiled by just one cable running down from the dish to the multi-switch.

sigma1914, are you sure? Because in this house, where it was professionally installed, it's got the Genie, 2 HR24's and 1 H25 and it's connected by the DIRECTV SWM-8 Single Wire Multi-Switch (8 Channel) (SWM-8) and two SWS-8 acting as 16 tuners. The LNB here is just the SL3 with 4 cables running down the house. I'm moving to the cottage for the summer, which is 20 miles away and taking all but one receivers with me. One's already there so I hate the need to call for DirecTV's movers plan. Also, I do not think an installer will like what they see there.

You can't have a Genie, two DVRs and a receiver connected to a SWM8. Have a closer look, it is probably a SWM16.

correct. You can keep the one cable system but then you can't have more then right tuners. More than eight tuners requires four cables from the LNB

Yeah, you're correct. Have a SWiM16 at this house. By the way, I've already got a Genie. So, I'm going to leave the Genie here and stick to the old way at the summer residence. Oh well.

You can have up to 8 tuners on the SWM LNB you have at your summer house, so if you bring the Genie you can bring one DVR and one receiver, or three receivers.

However, Genie clients don't use up a tuner (they borrow one of the Genie's 5 tuners) so perhaps if you have Directv swap out some receivers for clients you could make it work, and leave one DVR at home instead of the Genie.
