I recently had DirecTV installed. They put a SWS4WB in my basement and I have 4 boxes coming off of it. I want to get a bigger SWS (do they make a 6 port) and then I want to take one wire and run that about 200 feet. On the end of that run i want to put another SWS and run two more HD boxes off of that. Is this possible? Can you recommend the correct equipment to accomplish this? I have a playhouse I built on top of my detached garage and I want to have two receivers in this area. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

First of all, we need to know what kind of receivers you currently have, because your current LNB only supports a max of 8 *tuners* (DVRs use 2 tuners). You would need additional hardware to support more than 8 tuners.

Second, a 200' run with 2 splits stands a good chance of not working. You may need a second dish mounted on/near the playhouse to get signals there.

6 tuners in use, 2 available

Is the swm part of your dish?

Not exactly sure. Basically I have the 4 port SWS, i have one cable coming from a black box that gets powered, the cable from the sat also goes into that black box. Is that the SWM?

it looks like your swm is a built in unit, (Part of the LNB) if it was not, you would have 4 lines coming from the satellite dish to a multiswitch like device. To expand beyond 8 tuners total, you will need a new LNB and an external swm.
or a new dish (2 dishes total)

If I go the new swm route, what hardware would I need to accomplish what I want?

sorry, i meant a new lnb and an external swm. basically, whatever i need to expand to 6 boxes with 2 of the boxes being 200 feet away. i also do not want to have to run two 200' lines so i would like to run 1 line and then split that if possible.

1 a new LNB that matches the type you have now (with 4 ports)
2.. 4 lines to run from the LNB to where you are going to connect the other equipment
    3. 4 Skywalker splitters (Power passing)
    4 2 external SWM kits
8 lines to connect the skywalkers to the swms

Others can tell you exactly how to connect the skywalkers to the Swms
All of the above available at Solidsignal.com

You really should consider just putting another dish on your detached garage so you don't have to mess with the 200' run. Also I bet you can find an older non-swm dish on ebay cheaper than you can 2 SWM8s and the splitters, power inserters, etc. you will need to hook it all up that way.

No actually it looks like you were wrong correcting someone without fully reading that someone else said the same thing 10 posts before him.

ok maybe i will actually help, regardless of what they say up above. I recommend a slimeline5s (5 LNB setup) this will uncomplicate matters a tremendous amount. what kind of dish do you currently have?
