Go into the TV system settings and try turning anynet off.

Well unfortunately that did not work. I can still here both programs at the same time.
Well, it's not anything wrong with your connections, it has something to do with ARC on your display. ARC has benefits, but causes lots of issues too. Unfortunately, I don't know a lot about it.
I would suggest posting your question here:
Since it didn't change when not using the HDMI-ARC connection, "I think" it's still a setting that needs changing in the TV menu(s). "The smart TV" doesn't [yet] know to use the optical output, so it's using the TV speakers instead.
Either way, his answer lies amongst those that own the set.
That is exactly what is going on. I just spent an hour messing with the TV settings and found nothing about sound settings pertaining to my problem.
