    Spanky,
I am still in a ditch! Followed your instructions but still no luck. I didn't mention this before but now it may help. I have a lot of songs that I ran through Sound Taxi. A software that converts MP3's to wave files or WMV and WM4's also to wave files. These are also on the E: drive also. The odd thing is they all play. The songs that won't play are the ones ripped straight from cd's into WMP. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Here's my problem. Everything was working fine with my media share until today. Now I can view pictures and can listen to music when I pick playlists but when I pick music I get the cannot access media message. I'm using wmp 11, windows xp, a linksys router and a buffalo wireless bridge. When I select my laptop I can access the little music that's on there. I've tried unsharing and resharing the media and rebooting the hr20. I'll try to reboot the computer and see if that helps. In the meantime, any advice would be appreciated.

so I use MP3 only format on all my music. I feel this is the most recognized format for music that seems to be transferable between all types of OS's and platforms. In WMP, you can change the rip to save as MP3 as well. I think if you make playlists in WMP it may play the windows format music files but I am not sure about that.

I recommend you rip all music in mp3 format and this may fix your issue.

I do not know. But if you do figure it out, share the work around.

I've been trying to figure out why I get some songs to play. When I import my music into MP most of my music is recognized by artist and arranges as such. I have a lot of music that comes in as unknown Artist. All of these files will play. Any file that has album info will not. What is going on? Anyone know? Please?

There were 2 automatic updates installed by windows yesterday. I've removed them. When my grandchildren get done watching DVDs I'll see if that helped. If it did I'll post what updates they are.

That wasn't the problem. I'm still searching for the answer. If anyone has any ideas, feel free to share.

There you go. I don't use WMP either. I use Nero 7. Seems to be easier and works great.

Glad to see you found a work around.

was about to try via WMP11 (did not really wanted to upgrade the version 10 I have) as I was failing miserably with Nero 7.

Network was good. The HR20 could see my XP box, and even detected when "the server disconnected".

I had enabled just a sample folder with about 15 jpegs, but nothing would come in. I had set up Nero to share just that folder...

It ended up being that I had never had run Nero Scout, and you MUST index at least those folders that you try to share. You can then turn to share 'just those folders'.

BTW, the HR20 is plugged to a Belkin 54G router, that's set up as an AP via a wireless bridge to another Belkin 54G (where the PC is hooked up). Audio streams beautyfully...

Hope this is the correct place to post this question......

I have my primary HR20 hard wired to my Dlink 624 wireless router from my DSL modem. I can pick up the HR20 fine on my vista machine. I have a second box in the bedroom and due to distance, am using a Buffalo Ethernet converter. The bedroom box connects to the network fine and I am able to download on DOD. Problem is I can not see this box on my network to access the Media Share feature. My router is configured on channel 6 using WEP and Mac filters. I think I had set up the Buffalo the same. Last night I wired the Buffalo straight to the Dlink router to check the config but as soon as I did I not only lost the HR20's on my network but my entire network dropped, as well as my internet connection on my PC. I went back and put everything as it was, rebooted my modem, router, both hr20's and my PC. I now have my network back and can again access media share on my wired box but still can not see the bedroom box. Guess I can live with that since it does download content from DOD fine but am curious as to why I can't see the box on my network so I can use the Media Share feature? Obviously I am not very well versed in this networking stuff.
Hope I am not being too confusing here.

First, I highly reccomend updating the Buffalo firmware first. There is version 2.5.3 that seems to be needed.

Second, click on the network help linik in my signature and check out the thread. Lot of good help in there.

Good luck, I will be looking for your update. Pay close attention to setting up the wireless portion of the pdf attached in that thread. It is a Linksys, but the same settings will apply to the Buffalo.

I just got Music and Photos working and have the same problem with smushed photos. Did you get this resolved?

I do not have a clue on how to relieve the squashed pictures, perhaps someone else will chime in with an answer.

Well, I've updated the firmware and still no go. I've reviewed your networking post and I seem to set up correctly. Again, the only problem is that I can not see the second HR20 on my network and it does not allow Media Share. Connects to the internet and network fine and even lets me download via DOD.

My bad, seems I did not wait long enough. All is good. The firmware update did the trick and as soon as I allowed other device I was able to access and view all on my network. Thanks for the help!

I connected my HR20 to my network today (wired). I installed WMP11 on a PC running XP SP2 and was able to connect to my HR20 on the network.

However most of my photos and music are on a PC running XP Media Center. Will the HR20 act as a Media Center Extender (the XBOX 360 does this) - are there any instructions on how to connect to XP Media Center PCs?

Currently I get an error message from the HR20 when I try to connect to this PC.

Ok, here’s my problem. I have been connected to my music server for some time; Old slow XP computer; 2 HR 20 –700s. Never a problem. Could see and access music, pictures and play lists. Old computer fails, replaced with a dull core vista (ultimate). Now, can only see and access pictures and play lists. Kind of strange since the play lists are stored in the music folders. If I turn on my XP laptop and share it so it too is a music server, I can again see the music, again strange since the music is actually on the Vista computer. This has to be some strange vista setting. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Ditto. I have just got my HR20 networked. Photos are 'smushed' - that is they look like they have been compressed to 4:3.

Same photos from same PC viewed across the network on my XBOX360 look fine - that is the ratio is preserved. The also look like they are higher resolution on the XBOX360. Both the XBOX360 and HR20 are outputing at 720P to my 720P DLP.

The XBOX360 interface is better as well - so I may stick to accessing photos on the XBOX360 and use networking for DOD when it is eventually enabled on the HR20-100
