Both Genies have a 100 series limit

That's better. The last time I looked I had 134 favorites in XBMC, but many were cancelled this year. In fact if you want a series cancelled just convince me to start recording it.

The problem is that I can't bring myself to watch or record any reality TV.

Next questions. What is the difference between the HR34 and the HR44? Has anybody actually added an external RAID via the eSATA port? Is there any way to get my existing mpeg2 and/or h264 recordings onto the Genie? Note that these are not coming from any DTV device so I can currently move them anywhere I need to, rename as necessary, and transcode to other containers or codecs.

Thanks. I've more or less decided to go with the Genie. When I mentioned it to my wife I was told the decision isn't mine to make. She then directed me to call DirecTV ASAP to schedule the installation.

You guys were awesome. The install is scheduled for Friday. Here's hoping I get an HR44.

For RAID, keep in mind that in the Directv setup, the DVR is the single point of failure.

It's in and it works great. I did get an HR44 and I must say it is really fast. I started setting up my Series just for prime time tonight and I already ran out of tuners. I guess I got spoiled with my 10 tuners. I'm already thinking about replacing one of my H25s with an HR24 to spread the load and give it to my wife for her recordings.

I was a bit saddened today when I was adding my Series to record. I discovered that over half my favorites from last season were cancelled. The good news is that now I only have 65 Seres so I've got room. I still need to figure out how to add a couple series currently not in the guide or available on VOD. An example is Doctor Who.

Locals first and cable second, and you'll find that since most cable shows are repeated you will catch everything with a genie. The only reason I can't catch everything on em e genie is the series link limit and sports. Other wise one genie could catch everything I watch.

With that said, an HR24 for your wife is a great way to go as peds says.

Did you do a smart search for the shows? You'll find a lot of em are actually able to be set to record even if they aren't in the guide for the next couple weeks.

If its not there, there's a thread in the TV forums here where someone keeps a list of all shows seasons premiers you can check every couple weeks and set recordings based off it too.

It turns out I missed a few of my series and now I've used 81. Is there a way to manage the series online so that I can use a keyboard?

You can tap them out with the remote instead of going to each letter on screen, like 2 three times for c. Not as good as a keyboard of course but can be faster.

Four days in and I've already used 10% of the disk space. I've already got disks available for an external RAID. Now I just need to figure out what 4 bay enclosure to get.

Send RunnerFL a PM. He's used RAID boxes successfully on Genies. Keep in mind, if you put a really large external HDD on the Genie, you'll lose all your content if/when the Genie fails.

Why PMs? The more that's shared publicly, the better for many. Unless, of course, he's asked for same.
