Which channels do you believe are produced in 1080p?
Really?! Where did you hear this?!
me too. i want to see drogba's hd tears rolling down his face after Manchester United crush the chelscum.
- it says "as many as 400"....doesnt mean it has to be 400....could be only 130 & still be technically accurate.
didnt we already go thru this wording deal with the "up to 200 HD channels" stuff.
- doesnt that include directv cinema on demand as well ?
Only HD national on the horizon is GolTV per DirecTV HD page, August launch per this forum which is the end of the summer.
I remember reading about, but dont remember the outcome if true, that NFL Network actually does 1080p but then it gets downed to 1080i.
Zero would still be mathematically correct. Something somewhere close to 400 would be what a thinking person would infer from D*'s statement, certainly more than 35. And D* never said anything about on demand. How exactly would I watch these 400 titles without an internet connection? Whether on demand counts or not, that doesn't change the fact that the DirecTV Cinema listings consist of 35 titles at the moment, which is what the press release is about.
Anyway, I'm glad they don't have 400 titles. And I'm grateful they saved the PPV rollout for last.
The DirecTV page is usually one of the last places that updates info as for new HD Channels. I am sure deals are being worked on, but until all terms are agreed to and deals are signed nothing will be said. GolTV isn't in HD yet they have targeted August as their launch time that's why the August date is used.
No, that is the only ANNOUNCED HD. Doesn't mean there will not be more. Doesn't mean there will be more.
But, SR has already said another wave is coming. I believe SR.
Yup, it sure does. It says DIRECTV Cinema, which includes PPV and On Demand.
September 21st is the end of Summer...
Also, I wouldn't put much faith in that list being the final word...
This is part of the new mechanism of delivering movies to the DVR via the satellite. I don't recall the details or even know how it works but you request the movie and it comes down via the sky. (Does this use another portion of D12, yes?)
DirecTV Cinema and DirecTV Cinema ON DEMAND are two different things. Call up DirecTV and order an On Demand PPV without an internet connection and see how far you get.
They've had thousands of On Demand titles for a long time now. If that's what they meant, why announce such a small number like 400, which is a small fraction of what they already offer? They're clearly not talking about On Demand in the press release.
I've seen the speculation about this, but I have yet to see a single title delivered that way. If that's all there is to it, where are my 400 (non - on demand) titles that I can get this way?
Yes and no.
The delivery mechanism is different, but it is still the same service.
They may have thousands of OnDemand titles, but they have considerably less DirecTV Cinema OnDemand titles...
I'm still not following. If I go to the DirecTV Cinema page and look at DirecTV Cinema on DEMAND, I see:
"DIRECTV Cinema™ on DEMAND — Thousands of movies and shows — ready to watch any time!"
Sure enough, if I click on the list, I get 4306 titles. Great. That's considerably more than 400. However, I can only get 35 via satellite. Bummer.
If I look at the terms and conditions for DirecTV Cinema on DEMAND, I see this:
"Broadband Internet service with a minimum connection speed of 750 kbps or higher (DSL or cable)"
So I guess what I'm asking is where is this list of "up to" 400 titles (meaning more than 35 and in the ballpark of 400) I can get via satellite? In other words, I'm just your average J6P and read this press release and am ready to drop Netflix and sign up to get my 400 movies. I get DirecTV installed and I'm ready to buy 400 PPV movies. I only have a dial-up internet connection because I won't have any money left after I spend all my cash on PPV. So where are my 400 PPV movies?
I would be very very suprised if no other National HD channels do not arrive buy the end of the summer (excluding GolTV).
Okay, what part of that service is not running yet did you not understand?
I hope it’s a tidal wave and not a ripple.
Tomorrow is Wednesday, anything in the pipeline (except the N3D on Thursday)?
M.I.A. for me: FSC-HD, FSC+ HD, AMC-HD and BBCA-HD
