Here's hoping that those 8 Cinema HD slots that round it up to 30 are all that they will add.
Realize that even non-native Spanish speakers sometimes gravitate to the Spanish channels as well -primarily for Sports, but sometimes for other things such as telenovellas, variety shows etc. You don't have to speak a lick of SPanish to appreciate a good dance and music show.
For soccer fans, language is not a big barrier. People I know watch games on the Spanish channels (and Italian games on RAI every Sunday morning).
World Cup speaking, in the past I'd rather struggle to understand the Spanish language commentary that is awesome rather than deal with the lame ESPN commentary and the lack of emotion.
There is nothing worse than Baseball-like coverage for soccer.
Ex: "So this is what happened in 1970 after Pele retired, and by the way folks South Korea just scored, anyway as I was saying, Pele is a legend".
I'd rather have " Viene Messi, viene Messi, remate! Goaaaaaaaaaaaaaaal" - You watch long enough and throw in your Hig School Spanish, you can understand enough of the match.
ESPN is much better now because they hire folks who really know and follow soccer, but that the Spanish channels have HD, I may still DVR a match on Univision just to see what I have missed.
:welcome_s I to would like to see that but I will wait. Originally from Corunna.
I'm guessing you loved the soccer spoof they did on The Simpsons with Kent Brockman and the Spanish broadcaster.
It would be nice if the Spanish channels had a secondary audio channel in English, like many English channels have one in Spanish. I am sure it would attract many new viewers to their programing. I know I enjoy watching soccer on them, but with my limited Spanish, I understand very little about what is said.
For who? :nono2:
man I can't believe that, that was a decent show too
Telenovellas actually have some nice women to look at. And now in HD!
If they are going to have World Cup coverage, then yes. Look at how many people on this forum who normally do not watch MSNBC were upset that D* didn't have it in time for the Olympics.
Much like Lifetime, which is probably the 1st or 2nd most highly rated network D* doesn't yet carry in HD but only finished 26th in Sixto's recent poll of most wanted HD channels, it's difficult on this forum to ascertain the desire for Univision HD because their demographics do not match the demographics of this forum.
The only channel thats HD Lite is HGTV for some reason.
I don't think their picture is bad on hd broadcasts, but they stretch the sd stuff. That makes it look really bad!
All 1080i channels on Dish are HD-Lite. The last remaining 1920x1080 channels on Dish were reduced to 1440x1080 nearly three years ago. (locals may be exempt, but I am not sure)
For Spanish speaking people.
No, it means you will have at the very minimum 1 by May 31st.
"Just announced! 30 new HD channels, bringing our total to over 160 24/7 HD channels beginning in May"
To me this means they are adding these 30 channels in May (excluding the three that have notes next to them).
There are other channels that have not been announced that will begin launching in May and continue over the next few months.
But we arent in spain.
That's the way I read it this morning as well. One of the three is being added this month, one in May and one in the summer.
There will be 20 nationals and 10 Cinemas added in May the way I read it. The wording is very different than it was yesterday.
For English speaking also. Telenova's have bizarre, but short story lines, fun too watch and learn Spanish. They only last 3-12 months, then a whole new one begins. Reminds me of 24 on Fox, but not as good and more drama than action usually. Since I live on the border, i already get the OTA Mexicali stations in HD. The Telenova's center less on acting and more on Sex/Drama, etc, etc. Boring by description, but very addictive.
1080i locals (NBC & CBS, and I assume PBS and CW in the few markets where they are available in HD) are reduced to 1440x1080 as well.
With over 130 full-time HD channels, DIRECTV brings you more of what you want to watch in breathtaking High-Def than anyone — more than DISH Network, more than cable. With the addition of over 30 new HD channels this May, you will be able to enjoy over 160 channels, all in High-Def, all the time. If you want to get the most out of your HDTV, you need DIRECTV HD
Just announced! Adding 30 new full-time HD channels — coming in May
So there are 2 places now on the Directv website where it states the 30 channels are coming in May. So we get all these 30 in May?, it stated in their press release the roll-out would begin in May. Hmmm???
