But since they did not mention ESPN U HD, which they have already put out a press release saying the HD deal is done and it will be coming in 2010, (and is the only HD channel we don;t have to have been mentioned in a PR AFAIK) it seems more like an ad mistake to me.
Unfortunately (or fortunately for them) the vast majority of DirecTV customers simply don't care. We're in a very small minority, so all we get to rely on are the pieces of information that get dribbled out from various public sources. Your average DirecTV customer has no idea they even launched a new satellite.
No one I know even cares about any of the stuff we discuss on these boards. They just want to watch TV and record their favorite shows. When I go to their houses I usually have to set up their favorites and HD SD duplicates etc.
These will probally be about all the new national hd channels we will get, the rest will be Directv Cinema.
Just like D11, they built up all the new hd we would get and then we only got a hand full.

Capacity is like potential; it is meaningless unless it is achieved.
I've been with D* since 1998 and many things about them has changed for the worse in that time (e.g. customer service and marketing). For years I was proud to tell people I had D* and I would recommend it to them, but no longer. Unfortunately the only other choices I have are OTA, Charter, or AT&T U-verse. If Verizon FiOS was available, I'd jump on it.
U-verse in this area is bad. One day we didn't have TV from 4 AM to 5PM when a tech came to fix it. The next day I called Dish & and resigned. This is true! It took a week to get an install.

I can agree on those points, but numbers 2 & 3 are really mandated by the NFL, not DirecTV (ST is created by the NFL, DirecTV just has broadcast rights)
As for 1 and 5, I'm sure those issues will be resolved by September.
Number 4 would be nice, I also hope DirecTV could be a little more forthcoming, though I'm sure there's a lot of talk embargo when they're in contract negotiations.
I still continue to contend that the 400 PPV movies that are continually referred to are mostly going to be VoD. As I have said prior, that ties right into the DECA launch coming soon.
We will get lots of new national HD once D12 lights up. And I am sure that 99% of us will be mostly satisfied.
I found the 7 D* fliers from last week's Sunday paper and, yep, the same as what was posted. TCM, CSPAN1, CSPAN2, etc. all have their logos in the section listing the HD channels. That's a little misleading since it doesn't say, 'some of these aren't currently on D* in HD'.
Received our Sunday paper with the insert from Directv. Nowhere did it list any of the mentioned channels to be in HD. My wife and I both went over several times and did not see any of them.
+1. I use Redbox promo codes and get free movies. The new video store has 2 for a dolla (make you holla) rentals. Why would I use that jittery on demand crap?
For the last time, they never said 400 PPV channels, they said 400 (on demand) titles. PPV on demand is on channel 1100, you download them like NetFlix, it takes ZERO bandwidth. It'd take 5 D12's to hold 400 more channels.

Yeah, I'm getting a little tired of that whole thing. People seem to ignore the obvious and go straight for what they fear most.
