No, but they are widescreen. I love Redbox. I just reserved Up In The Air today, its release date. I used to belong to Netflix but got tired of "Very Long Wait" tags on all of their newer releases.
ive been criticised in some other posts across this fine web site...for not being patient, all good HD additions come to those who wait..yeah yeah whatever...... Is this truly how one who has direct tv is supposed to get by (at least on this site)..with sixto reports? and now teasing print media? alledging or not alledging what we might be getting?? is someone gonna tell me to be patient or that D12 is still testing??
contract time cannot come soon enough for me 9/08/2010....we shall see
That is the one thing that has always bugged me about DIRECTV. I fully agree, many channels are now signed and "in the can". Why not have a "coming soon" page on DIRECTV? This would lure in new customers too. I just don't get it, what's the risk?
They didn't . The presentation says "70 new HD channels" . The "National" is missing and unfortunately is VERY important to differentiate from any PPv/Cinema/Local Sport. Obviously they will use the available space for something, but NATIONAL HD channels is what we the customers want.

To D* though RSN's are nationals; which is true if you think about it. For the right packages (Sports Pack plus MLBEI, NHLCI and NBALP) you can watch all of their programming no matter where you live.
I'm a Coke drinker, can't stand Kool Aid, but the insert in my latest DirecTV bill explicitly says "The launch of DirecTV's new satellite means additional premium channels in HD." which Satracer said as well a month ago.
They also said at a conference yesterday that they'll have "up to" 70 new national HD channels this year:
And what happens if they announce a bunch of channels to go live on April 1st, and D12 were to be lost/damaged while moving from 76° to 103°? People would be flipping out even worse then they are right now.
Nope. They simply say "the satellite exploded" (or whatever ). Sorry. People would understand. You're saying "don't give me any advanced info, whether you have it or not, because I'm afraid I'd be disappointed and couldn't handle it. :eek2::eek2:

I hear what you are saying but there is a bit more to it than that ...remember D* is a public traded company and forward looking statements can alter Stock prices and that is why they are heavily regulated by the SEC. so this is different than you telling your kid you are buying him a car in 4 months and then when you lose your job you say tough break and your kid understands .... the government regulators may say you were operating in a manipulative manner

Certainly can not disagree with you. BUt they can say something, instead of simply remaining silent and let everyone speculate. Does everyone realize that except for posts dealing with actual factual information (problems with DVRs, what's happening with D12, etc.) almost everything in these D* threads/posts is pure speculation. There are thousands of posts listing speculative thoughts, and many more thousands of responses agreeing with, or arguing against this speculation. NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING. Seems to be a poor model for effective customer relations. Simply lip flapping, although I'm sure the website owners/managers are glad there are a lot of posts. .

Folks just need to get over the capacity ads. Enough already. D12 is going to drift to its final location within the next few days. Whether they have capacity now or will in three weeks will be a completely moot point.
They aren't going to announce new channels too far in advance. Get over it folks. This ad and other ads are just that...ads. They aren't announcing a pending apocalypse.
We pay a little extra for directv so that we can guess, ponder, and speculate whether directv will soon(when) offer several national channels in hd that the other tv providers currently have. They are talking about potential capacities and guaranteed premium and pay per view hd programming, but on the most important subject to most subscribers they are totally silent. Yes hoosier silent! PPV & premium are huge profits and nothing my $140 per month is interested in.
Directv appears to have a few hd channels waiting to turn on when sat D12 does and probably has tentative/guaranteed contracts with some of the newer national non-premium hd channels, but to not even declare any tentative agreements is disrespectful to their current and prospective customers. They could easily lawyer up this statement. And to require a 2 year contract (that they often forget to mention) for this programming while they keep us in the dark is inexcusable. It may be legal but not even wise if they want to grow.
I have the .xls file from avsforum listing all hd channels for all providers. I even filled in the actual channel for d*, e*, tw, and verizon, my nearby choices. I will display/attach soon if requested. It doesn't look good for directv. Premium channels are important and verizon has about 20 more than directv. In regular national hd channels there are probably 40 channels available. That would fill up D12 right there and d* would have to pay a lot for all these channels. Even more than versus. We all appreciate sr but 99.9% of the world has never heard of him. If they won't even turn on any national hd channels besides BET in the last year why should I assume they are willing to give me anything more than pay per view in the near future?
I won't touch that hr24 until directv commits to something! The corporate excuses are getting old. Directv needs to provide a better product or lower their prices to below what the competition charges for more channels. It's not like we are asking for an exact date or anything. If d* stays silent and lame excuses continue to spew I'll list evey single national and premium hd channel that we are missing out on. There are a lot but embarrassment might work. Directv grow some nads and end the massive speculation! Up to 70 new HD channels!?????
If thats the list i think it is it omits (for some unknown reason) the 24 HD Full-Time Regional Sport Networks (RSN's) that directv has.
You should add all those channels to the listing as well then.

Actually I found that list over at avsforum also but I don't think those channels are valid for this discussion. Directv has the leadership in regional sports channels but not by that much unless we pay the extra for the season pass. I only watch a few shows on these channels. This is about national hd channels and premium hd channels. Compared to dish and verizon directv is missing several. Before commiting to 2 year contracts people desire to know whats available during that time period. OK here it is. I don't guarantee that it is correct. I haven't finished color coding packages.

When I look at my list for Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket, my 2 regional sports channels you are correct. I have those channels blank for dish and filled in for directv and verizon. Even time warner only has 1 of those channels. Those 2 channels mean way more 2 me than other city sports channels. Especially when all the pro sports are blacked out. I strongly agree with you that dish not having my regional sports channels in hd is lame. In fact I find that incredible. We all have different channel preferences so im trying to present an overall fair, accurate and up to date chart of my local offerings and what channel to turn to. My friends love it. Several just switched to verizon and like it. Verizon told me I can lease 10 hd-dvr's and record 20 hd channels at once. I had heard they can only do 2. I currently do 16 channels with directv for lots less $$$ but missing lots of good channels too. Even dish has a new channel (fschd) that verizon doesn't.

and verizon will bill you about $16 per box vs $5 each -1 (box 1 is free) on directv.
