DIRECTV already announced that they “NOW” have the capacity for 200 channels. I like your reasoning. However, this is not the case. Clearly DIRECTV is not afraid to take a risk. We all know they “NOW” do “NOT” have the capacity for 200 channels. They will soon, but not today. Plus, we all know DIRECTV loves disclaimers. Simply add a disclaimer on the coming soon page.

And what happens if they can't launch the 400 PPV/Cinema that was promised to the investors ? What's the difference ?

I agree. I understand totally that DIrecTV can;t come out and say we have channels coming on this date. However, with past investor calls and commercials saying they did have channels coming and recent investor calls not mentioning it at all, I can only hope they know it is a done deal and are not mentioning it in forward looking statements anymore and not that they have changed course. In all honesty, it would not kill the CEO to mention more HD coming in the same sentence as the PPV, that way no one has any reason to worry.

I'm a Coke drinker, can't stand Kool Aid, but the insert in my latest DirecTV bill explicitly says "The launch of DirecTV's new satellite means additional premium channels in HD." which Satracer said as well a month ago.

They also said at a conference yesterday that they'll have "up to" 70 new national HD channels this year:

If you want specific dates, get an executive position at DirecTV, sorry but none of us will be able to tell you that.

No, but they are widescreen. I love Redbox. I just reserved Up In The Air today, its release date. I used to belong to Netflix but got tired of "Very Long Wait" tags on all of their newer releases.

That's odd, I never get waits on new movies. If I plan it right, I often get movies delivered the day they're released.

Be patient, D12 is still testing.:D:D

Truth is, that until D12 is parked at it's final destination, everything is speculation.

Then people will get upset about the word "soon". To some, "soon" is tomorrow.:D

Or something happens to the satellite......

To best honest...I am surprised by the lack of reading comprehension regarding this ad. It is very clear and many are off the mark.

They didn't . The presentation says "70 new HD channels" . The "National" is missing and unfortunately is VERY important to differentiate from any PPv/Cinema/Local Sport. Obviously they will use the available space for something, but NATIONAL HD channels is what we the customers want.

To D* though RSN's are nationals; which is true if you think about it. For the right packages (Sports Pack plus MLBEI, NHLCI and NBALP) you can watch all of their programming no matter where you live.

Cool, I had not seen the recap of that call yet. That is exactly what they should have been doing the last two financial calls, IMO.

Nope. They simply say "the satellite exploded" (or whatever :)). Sorry. People would understand. You're saying "don't give me any advanced info, whether you have it or not, because I'm afraid I'd be disappointed and couldn't handle it. :eek2::eek2:

I hear what you are saying but there is a bit more to it than that ...remember D* is a public traded company and forward looking statements can alter Stock prices and that is why they are heavily regulated by the SEC. so this is different than you telling your kid you are buying him a car in 4 months and then when you lose your job you say tough break and your kid understands .... the government regulators may say you were operating in a manipulative manner

Certainly can not disagree with you. BUt they can say something, instead of simply remaining silent and let everyone speculate. Does everyone realize that except for posts dealing with actual factual information (problems with DVRs, what's happening with D12, etc.) almost everything in these D* threads/posts is pure speculation. There are thousands of posts listing speculative thoughts, and many more thousands of responses agreeing with, or arguing against this speculation. NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING. Seems to be a poor model for effective customer relations. Simply lip flapping, although I'm sure the website owners/managers are glad there are a lot of posts. :) .

Then why does the directv site now already say:

"With the capacity for over 200 HD channels...."

    Sounds forward looking to me.

Folks just need to get over the capacity ads. Enough already. D12 is going to drift to its final location within the next few days. Whether they have capacity now or will in three weeks will be a completely moot point.

They aren't going to announce new channels too far in advance. Get over it folks. This ad and other ads are just that...ads. They aren't announcing a pending apocalypse.

But they did announce ESPNUHD by 3/31/10.
