You might give this a try and see what their official stance is for owned receivers.

"Breaking the seal" is not an issue because Directv is not taking HR24s back. They probably never cared much (I've never heard of a single report of someone getting in trouble for returning a receiver with the tamper stick broken) but they sure don't care about someone opening up 5-10 year old boxes.

Yup, they close the account you're never gonna get them reactivated.

This whole thing was caused by the new computer system not being able to deal with owned HRs. That can and should be changed.

I have sent many HRs back and they all had that seal broken. Not one word about that have I heard.

Good luck. I usually get a call from them the next day after I send it. 3 days max but that is always when I am complaining about something. It may be different response times when just asking a question.

Maybe I'll get to talk to someone rational, I'd like to be able to sell the HRs. I bought them with the idea of selling them at some point in time. I figure I got screwed out of a couple thousand dollars. At least.

Yup. The woman I spoke to didn't have a clue about anything. She thought I wanted ATT to pay me for the "owned" HRs. No matter how I explained the situation she kept saying they couldn't possibly "buy" my HRs. I gave up and she said she would send me info on how to do what I wanted to do. What I got had nothing to do with anything related to DVRs. She did not understand one thing I said to her.

I was disappointed but not surprised. ATT has done nothing but screw up a company that was screwed up to begin with, they actually made it worse. I was not surprised.

Kinda what I figured. Guess I won't be calling in about my owned units. At this point, I can't imagine there's going to be another use when I'm done with then anyway so if they want them back, on by me.

It's really infuriating and unfortunate that they did screw this up so bad. Back in the late 90s, early 2000s, it was perfect - competition in the marketplace kept their technology updated. It was exciting to see how Sony was going to outdo RCA or how TiVo, Ultimate TV, etc would be implemented. Know 15 year old technology is standard. It's a joke.

Well let me know when you decide to hang it I up. I can still activate owned receivers so I may hoard a couple more unless I get kicked over to ATT billing at some point.
