will do. i unplugged the AC power to the CCK but left the CCK coax connected to the IRD port just until i can get a cap so the port wasn't opened. i will get to radio shack tomorrow to get a cap.

something like this will work for a cap, right?-

i just took some time checking in the basement and it appears it is set up like this-

    port 9-16 on SWM16 to 8way splitter- 2 lines out of that 8 way. 1 to HR21 and 1 to HR22

port 1-8 on SWM16 to another 8 way splitter- 1 line out of 8 way splitter to back of my HR34

DC power port on SWM16 to "power to SWM" port in power inserter

Right type but they're only worth $1 or less, so check with other local places [home depot, lowes, etc.]

It would have been nice to know your full setup at the start of this post. You only mentioned an HR21 which lead me to believe you had an SWM8. Now I know my setup is nothing like yours. Based on what you just added, I would make another change, but I think I am done here.

As VOS mentioned HD carries the terminators.

VOS is right, I've used very cheap terminators, but do inspect them before you use them by screwing them in then unscrewing them and looking at the inside. The cheap ones do fall apart a little.

i went through the shipping box that the HR34 came in and found one of the the terminator's that the tech removed from the splitter when he did the install. i put it on the IRD port and all seems to working great now. Thanks for all your help everyone:)

BobStokesbary- you're right i should have done that to begin with, but i just now was able to get down there and cut all the zip ties to see exactly which wire was which. i didn't want to just guess, they were all coiled up and it was hard to follow the wires through all the coils. sorry if i was misleading, it certainly was not my intention at all. i though in post 6 i mentioned my 34, 21 & 22. thanks for your help on this.
