Just came here to post this finding. Looks like I was updated around 4:19 am. I couldn’t find any other noticeable changes.

Go into the list menu and just press up. Simple, but I don’t recall anyone asking about it.

What some see as confusing, others see as an option. Some folks don't like options, some folks like that you can do thing multiple ways. I'm definitely in the second group. I get idiot proofing things (Apple has been doing this for years) but I tend to think of myself as not an idiot :)

DIRECTV probably doesn't have to field simple questions from you. The "idiots" (actually just criminally lazy in most cases) however are legion.

Microsoft's approach to end user customer support is to not accept questions.

Was there an updated guide display feature with this update? Not sure how I did this but I was watching a recording on my HR54 and somehow 2 lines of the guide came up essentially letting me watch my recording in full screen and scroll through 2 lines of the guide. Never seen this before and can't figure out how to do this again. Maybe its a hidden feature activated by a key combo?

With this update they also tried to hide "My Teams". Now you go to settings, arrow right and look for "Edit My Teams". Its not found under "Discover"..."Sports" anymore...not sure what advantage that is....

Except if there's more than one way to do things (for this example, they kept it both on the left list and gives you the button) you can do it either way, there SHOULD be no questions). They do that actually for some things, like you can hit stop, or back button or exit to exit out of a recording. So there's precedent.

As for your comment about Microsoft, that was possibly true 20 years ago, but not true now. There are any number of places you can get responses from Microsoft. I have reached out to them numerous times for help. In fact I'm sad they are closing their stores which I went to often for help on things.

Since Technet went "social", I'm not sure which avenues are actually monitored by Microsoft support staff. Most forums are user supported (denoted by urls like social.*.microsoft.com) and most of the web and site search options take you to these subdomains. User-supported is often helpful, but it suffers mightily when Microsoft removes any underlying resources that are linked to. There are often multiple "threads" on the same issue (many of which were never answered). Stale information cannot be updated as they lock the threads fairly frequently.

Twitter and Facebook are not among the "resources" that I expect to get help from and maybe that's just me but I kinda doubt it. Calling on the phone will get you a somewhat savvy automated attendant but it isn't particularly interactive.

Finally, like HP and others, searching Microsoft's website is an exercise in tilting at windmills. Most questions are shuttled to social forums and most any product that isn't the latest has been summarily poofed.

When you call or chat for support from DIRECTV, you're ultimately going to be conversing with a DIRECTV support person.

Actually no need for exit even. But it was always showing on the page before and could easily always be seen by anyone. Now it’s more hidden as it is only displayed under one circumstance. You are at the top of the list. It’s not as intuitive as it was, because as it was everything you could want to do was in one place. Splitting it up does not make it easier to find.

My biggest issue is why bother with this change instead of fixing the floating box in the first place which is an actual problem and creates a massive inefficiency.

Anybody notice any slowness changing channels since the update? (HR54 - C61K mini). I notice this on my C61K especially. It's like this update introduced some handshaking issues. Sometimes it's like up to 5 seconds before the screen appears after a channel change.

I'm not sure if that's normal or not, it just "feels" slower to me than it was before

I've been with DIRECTV for 25 years. If my channel changing speeds changed I would have noticed.

When you find yourself down the list and want to get back to the top, try hitting the list button. It may or may not do anything, but give it a try.
