    When i received my bill this week, it had a state tax added to it. It is about 1.1% of the total bill. I have searched and been unable to find where the state has added this tax to be collected. Does anyone in ga. have any info about this? Thanks

    it's called farming (by your state) for revenue. I would start with your local State rep - if you go to your state hse . gov you can find his/her contact info.

    In a letter from the National Taxpayer's Union to the Legistlature and Governor Deal, it appears that Georgia is/was considering a 7% tax on satellite TV service. Maybe they are phasing it in.

    I would imagine that the tax wouldn't apply to all aspects of the bill so that may be why the impact isn't that substantial.

    I've had the tax on my bills from the start of my service (March 2007?).

    I believe the tax is on the DVRs and the DVR Service.

    My bill shows $1.92 for tax. I live in Gwinnett County (6% sales tax).

    32.00 * .06 = 1.92

    32.00 appears to come from:

    First DVR on account ==> $9.00 (DUO-HD 622) + Second DVR on account ==> $17.00 (DUO-SD 625) + DVR SERVICE ==> $6.00 = $32.00

    I wouldn't be surprised to see CA try to get a satellite tax to balance a 25 billion shortfall.

    This year is expected to be a big year to see tax increases in pay TV services and cell phone tax. Already these 2 areas are taxed heavily but since they're non essencial services people don't complain as much at the state and blame the companies thinking it's another price increase.

    Just another way for states to raise money. We pay 6.25% in Texas. It seems to happen the most in those states where the governor has made it a point to give well publicized tax breaks and campaigned against raising taxes for anybody.

    This info is not correct. HB 388 was dropped yesterday and will not be voted on this session. No sales tax as yet.

    If you can pay a bill for it, the Governments think they should tax it.
    That's why I like my free OTA channels. That's also why the lawmakers (i.e.: tax spenders) want to take it away. ;)
