New 4K TV. Currently have an older Genie and several other DVRs. Can I replace just one of the DVRs with a Genie 4K receiver and keep everything else including the older Genie?

No. Only one Genie per account is allowed. To keep your other DVR's you would need to upgrade the Genie you have to an HR54 which does not display 4K to a TV. To display 4K you would have to also have to get a C61K client that will display 4K.

Only the HR54 and HS17 can output 4k. Both would feed C61K genie mini for 4k. The 54 can only feed 1 C61k 4k stream at a time. The HS17 can feed 2 c61k 4k signals at a time.

The hs17 can only feed minis, so if you got one of those, you'd have to replace all your other DVRs.

Your best option would be the HR54 to replace your hr44 and a c61k to replace another DVR, but locate the c61k on your 4k TV.

    Good luck.

There is only five 4K channels currently, probably no need to watch 2 channels at same time.
Can you watch one 4K channel and record a different channel at the same time with the HR-54?
Can you record 2 4K channels at the same time? If so, can you also record other HD channels at the same time?

    technically speaking neither

those DVRs works as "a pipe" - push UHD stream from sat or from HDD to UHD clients (one for HR54 and two for HS17)

HR54 will allow one 4K to be recorded and several regular HD at the same time as far as I know. The HS17 allows two 4K and several reg HD. Problem is with the HS17 you have to give up your other standalone DVRS. With the HR54 you don’t.

Technically speaking you are wrong. trh said both output 4k, which is correct, but neither can render a picture. You need a C61k client for that.

Called and ordered an HR54 and a client. Specifically said the HR54, they said “sure”. Said they could not ship needs professional installation. So now I check the order status and it says Genie 2 and 7 wireless clients, with a 3 hour installation. I do not want a Genie 2. What is wrong with these people.

The reason for the service call is because the tech will replace your LNB with a Reverse Band LNB for future proofing. Call this number 1-800-824-9077 (Loyalty/Retention) and explain that you prefer a HR54 and not a HS17 (aka Genie 2). Have them make the correction. The tech should call you the day of the service call. Make sure he has the HR54 on his truck, if not cancel your appointment and call again.

Having trouble with 4k channels. Was getting 104 & 106 free. Now not getting any of the 4k channels. Have called Directv since Jan. and getting conflicting stories (and not just from the first level people but from all reps. Last one on Friday said that all 4k channels are ppv channels. We certainly did not receive any notifications that the channels had been changed to ppv. Any help? By the way, we were on the phone last Friday for over 3 hours.

Problem is your equipment list shows an HR44 and 6 other locations with TVs. The HR54 cannot do more than 5. So CS decided incorrectly, to update your whole system.

All you want to do is, change HR44 to HR54.
Change one H24 to a C61K, and put the C61K at your 4K TV.
Leave all others in place (or have tech relocate them but no other equipment swaps needed)

Also, you don't want 7 wireless clients.

Channel 104 - Human Interest, free with 4K service. Channel 105 - Recorded Special Events, free with 4K service. Channel 106 - Live Events, usually free with 4K service. Channel 107 - PPV. Channel 108 - PPV.

Does a 4k signal come out of an HR54 or HS17? Yes. That means it's outputting a signal. It isn't viewable (rendered) until it is processed by a C61k.

sorry for the misconception posted here - many readers would be confused :(

when you don't know electronics .. nor what is constituting 4k/UHD signal in term of outputting … signals coming out … 4k output and stream … such a mess !
sounds as an IT person hovering over cables and boxes :)

Exactly what I want to do and had explained all that to the CS (who said no problem) until they took it upon themself to blow up my order after the call.
