Moving in with someone with Dish. What devices/Apps are available to add access to the main DVR in an extra room without running another feed or dish rcvr? Dish Anywhere via Roku or PC? Thanks.

All I could find out so far is that it's a Hopper. New within the last couple of months. Hope that helps.

There are three receivers called Hopper that DISH currently installs.
    The features vary.

What should I be looking for? Model #? Why wouldn't they have the same access to a networked DVR as the other Hopper models?

If you can, press MENU twice and the model number will be on the screen.
(Press Cancel twice to return to normal.)

DISH is using the "Hopper" as a brand. It started out on the "Hopper 2000" (which should identify as a "Hopper" on the screen). That is the basic three tuner Hopper. Later DISH introduced the "Hopper with Sling". This is like the original Hopper but has sling built in and will allow live TV streaming. The top of the line is the "Hopper 3" which has 16 tuners, supports 4K and also has sling built in. Then they decided to introduce a two tuner version of the Hopper and call it the Hopper Duo. It is cheaper and is often installed instead of a Hopper with Sling (especially for single TV installs).

So - if your friend has a Hopper w/Sling or a Hopper 3, You can use DishAnywhere to access it.

There are different DishAnywhere clients available -
    Windows
    Mac
    IOS
    Android
    FireTV
    Amazon Fire Tablet

and someothers. Check your app store.

If he has the original Hopper without Sling - You would need a Joey to access. A Joey might give you the best experiance anyway.

The Sling can serve as the server to your Dish Anywhere client.

Since I don't know anything about it I was hoping for info like - It plugs into a usb port and connects to the network wirelessly..? or do you need a hard-wired connection.

The "Sling Adapter" is a USB device designed for the Hopper 2000 or older DVRs. I don't believe it will work with the Hopper Duo.

One may be able to buy a "SlingBox Solo" or other standalone SlingBox device that will work with any receiver (not DISH specific).
