Ok, so first let me start off by saying I am new to Satellite in general, let alone DirecTV. I know this question has been answered in this forum but since I am new to this I don't quite understand all the lingo used. With that being said here is my situation... I have been a DirecTV customer for about one week so I know they won't work with me on this. I have one HD DVR receiver, one HD receiver, and one SD receiver. I really want to replace the SD receiver with an HD receiver so I can have access to my whole-home-dvr in all my rooms. When I signed up they wanted to charge me $100 to have an additional HD receiver, they also didn't tell me that an HD receiver is required to have access to the whole-home-dvr. Instead of paying the $100 to DirecTV I would prefer to purchase my own HD receiver and replace it with the SD receiver because I feel like I can get a better deal. Is this allowed by DirecTV? If so, do I need to call them to purchase a new card that goes into the receiver or can I just use the one that is in my SD receiver? Also, I guess I have free HD for life? So, would I need to do anything other than just hook up an HD receiver that I purchased on my own? As I said before I know this is in the forum somewhere but I can't find the proper answer because I need someone to explain in very plain english not using acronyms. However, I am fairly savvy with electronics etc... so you don't have to define everything, just most things ... I just haven't had a chance yet to do research on how these things operate. Thank you in advance!
