Are your locals in HD? Sat OR OTA?

here's what happened to me earlier this year. after getting mis-billed 3 months in a row I called to quit. they fixed the bill finally, and sent me a HR20 to keep me another 2 years. so I DID have a leased HR20 without an HD package for almost 2 months.
a month after getting that hr20 I bought one (leased also) and also ran that on my sd plan. so at 1 time I had 2 hr20 dvr's on an sd plan.
now this may have been a result of the retention issue, I don't know.

however, it did not take long for me to upgrade dish myself and sign up for the HD package :)

Do you get your locals (sd) off of 103? (are your locals Bangor Maine's?) If so, that is why you were able to get an HR20 without paying or receiving HD..... That won't happen anymore because they now have the R22, which is a SD MPEG-4 box, although it appears to simply be a activation procedure to make it able to receive HD.... :D

we did not have locals available at that time, they came on middle of April this year.
yes, Bangor is the dma for me.
I always wondered if it was a mistake on D* part, they were supposed to send a dvr to keep me, but sent an hd dvr. so being the accepting person I am :) I went with it.

Maybe they just new it was coming? I think you got lucky, either way. But today, that is why you have that box and are not being charged for HD...

I am charged now, after almost 2 months like that I upgraded to HD. figured the hr20 was dropping audio anyway, might as well do it in HD :):)
the hd dvr+ packge gave me lot more for only 10 $ more than what I was paying so I went with that.
I tried premier but the dvr fees drove the price up, so I went back to hd dvr+ with all movie channels.

The post from the OP seems very unlikely. If he has an H10, and only gets a few HD stations, then it makes sense. But if he has an H20 or H21, then it seems crazy.
I have a friend with a Toshiba LCD, maybe 50+ inches, and when I was there the other night, he said isn't that a great picture on Fox? I said what receiver do you have (it was clearly stretched SD). It was an H10. I said lets see your dish. It was a 3 LNB dish. I explained that for $99 he could get a new dish and receiver, all installed, and gain 50-75 HD channels, including locals. He had no clue that this was possible.
How do we get the word out?
