But I think it still holds true. I am going to have to eat a month.
It does hold true. You need to cancel at the end of your billing cycle
Wow! I called the loyalty number again today and finally hit the jackpot. The guy (Juan) was super nice and informative. I told him I called last week or so to try and find a deal on ST to no avail and he saw that call and said he could find me something even though I had credits from that call. He came back with more credits $60/12 months ON TOP of what I was given last week. To this he said he does it this way, so it looks like I'm buying ST for 6 pmts of $65, but in actuality it works out even lower than free for me, THEN I cautiously reminded him I really wanted the MAX and is there anything he could do? I told him once I paid the $100 one time fee for it and was willing to do that today. He politely says that is for the MAX, then he threw in some free sports package for 6 months for free which just falls off without needing to cancel. In the end, my bill is going to be $12 cheaper a month for 6 months then $77 cheaper after STMAX is paid off. So between the 2 calls to loyalty, I got more than I asked for. It just amazes me that it all depends on who you get. I called on a Friday which I thought may not be a good idea. It was. Hang in there everybody and I hope you get Juan or alike.
Cancel before the end of the billing cycle unless you live in one of the excepted states or want to pay for the next full month.
I don't know why this is happening, but I can logon to Sunday Ticket on a computer, but it keeps telling me that my login information was not found on both the Apple TV app and the Roku app. This is crazy! I have deleted the apps and reinstalled them, but it doesn't seem to matter. I just installed the app on my Chromebook and it allowed me to login without any issues. I am going crazy!
What “loyalty number” did you call?
You are describing entering incorrect information.
Double check upper/lower case letters in your password. Sometimes a lower case 'L' can look like a 1 or vice versa.
Just wondering is anyone who is getting a great deal on the att number or still under directv? When I called a loyalty number she said it was the DirectV number and that my account had been switched to att so I had to call a different number where I got nothing.
I had setup to cancel Oct 1st. I called On Saturday and magically they offered me ST MAX for free and a $60/month credit for 1 year. If you cant get discounts setup to cancel and then call back. Before I did cancel there were no discounts.........We have had Premier+ for 15 years; does not seem to matter but when you cancel that gets there attn!
That is an excellent way of putting it and exactly how it is done. I've found that what we see clearly & concisely on our end isn't what they say, which is another battle. I think they do have a way of finding out if you've paid for ST. They have asked me before then done the research to find out. It will be interesting in 2 weeks to see if the $40 off a month I was promised will actually be there.
What number did you call?
Been moved over to ATT.
DTV for 22+ years, I'm from the days of Earl, and the old Tivo/DTV based boxes.
Called and got $5x12 the second time, not much else, took that to help lower the bill.
Yep, when I heard that I knew I was getting nothing. I felt like they tricked me into switching on my first call last month. I had to create an access code and everything. I wish I would have told them no.
Didn't help me because my bill cycle isn't until Oct 14th. If I have to wait until then for them to shake Sunday Ticket from the tree, I would have missed over 1/4 of the season.
Interesting article in today's WSJ.
It's a paysite, not sure if you'll be able to read the entire article.
WSJ News Exclusive | DirecTV Rethinks NFL Sunday Ticket Deal Amid Cord-Cutting
A couple of quotes from Stankey:
“It (Sunday Ticket) becomes less critical to the business over time.”
“I don’t think we look at that (Sunday Ticket) and say it’s a growth product,” he said. “I don’t think we’re going to wake up a year from now and suddenly there’s going to be more people in the United States that want to watch an out-of-market team.”
While this may be accurate, I think it is also accurate to say that if DIRECTV loses exclusivity to NFL Sunday Ticket, there will be a significant number of existing DIRECTV customers looking elsewhere for services without Sunday Ticket keeping them with DIRECTV.
Here’s a more interesting quote from the WSJ article:
“The cost of Sunday Ticket rights has risen dramatically. The current 8-year deal’s average annual fee is a roughly 50% increase over the previous pact, which expired in 2014. DirecTV loses more than $500 million annually on the football package, people with knowledge of the deal said.”
They are losing money on it so I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see them drop it or go non-exclusive since profitability is a big thing to them.

This is probably a significant reason why ST discounts aren't as readily available.
We obviously don’t know, but this could also be public posturing which happens all the time in the negotiations. I don’t think anyone will be surprised if DirecTV’s is no longer the exclusive home for NFLST after the current contract expires. The more interesting question IMO is who is gonna get it and will the NFL offer it to multiple providers. I will say the experience, even on Apple TV, is not as good watching on DirecTV, so I’d miss it.
They need to offer it as a stand-alone package not tied to a satellite or cable subscription.
