I just called in for my yearly discount. I got the NFL ST Max for free. At first they said they didn't have anything showing up. I had them remove it and add it back. Once they did, they were able to charge me for the whole thing at once and credit me for the whole thing. I said contract end date at the prompt and was taken right to retention.

I also got a year credit for my regional sports fee and Showtime free for four months.

I'm pretty happy with what I got.

Not always but it is leverage for you in getting a better offer. They like offering you something that will at least get you into another year or more. Not everyone is going to call back more than once to get a deal every year. Its not a bad deal for them. Just works out great for those of us who know what to do.

I have noticed that there seems to be pretty good luck with people who have removed Sunday Ticket and add it back. I myself have removed Sunday Ticket the last three years I think. I have been with D* since 2008 and only paid anything for Sunday Ticket 1 time.

Would you recommend calling back within the same day or is it best to wait a day or two?

It's all in who you talk to....

Made my second call today and spoke to a very knowledgeable rep named Patricia. I simply asked if there were any discounts for ST. She immediately recognized that I was a renewal customer so she removed the renewal and said there would be no charge for ST Max this year.

    :joy: :biggthump :glasses:

She also gave me 1/2 off HBO/Stars and 4 months of free Showtime. Bonus!

This is 16 years in a row I've subscribed to ST. And thanks to this board I've gotten discounts on ST for the past 9 years. Many years I've received it for free.

I had called in on Friday & the best that they could do was $60 off of Sunday Ticket. I called today & they gave me ST Max for 1/2 off so 4 payments of $41 & $5 off a month for 6 months. I could've called back again but my contract will be up next February so I should be able to get it for free next summer.

I have been with Direct TV for three years and subscribe to the Platinum package. The first year I got Sunday Ticket for free and for the last two years I got it for a discounted price but with discounts totaling more than what they were charging me, so basically free. I called last night and was told that there were no deals available. I asked to be connected to retention, which I was. I explained that I am not under contract and was thinking of cutting the cord but that I would consider staying if I could get a good deal on Sunday Ticket. I was offered Sunday Ticket for free (including Red Zone but not Max), $10 off for loyalty for 12 months, $10 off Sports Pack for six months, $10 off Advanced Receiver Services for 12 months and free HBO/Showtime/Starz for three months (credit of $41.99 a month since I get that package already). In exchange for all that, I had to commit to staying with them for one year. Sounded really good to me.

The first thing she offered me was Sunday Ticket for free, then before I could even say anything she offered the other discounts. It made me think of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer sues a coffee company because he got scalded. They offer him free lattes and he interrupts them mid sentence and says I'll take it. If he had only let them finish the sentence, they were about to offer him $50,000 (I think) in addition. So the lesson here is if you call and they offer you something good, let them finish, there will be more.

When I was under contract, they'd only offer me half off Sunday Ticket. When I was out of contract, they'd give it for free plus some other stuff like you have been offered. I always make sure now to only go 12 months contracts so it always ends right before football season.

I am in a position now where I need newer equipment (especially a wifi receiver) since I'm still on my original HR-24 and H24s. They said since I have the protection plan, I can get an upgrade but requires 2 year requirements.

Just go find an owned HR44 on either eBay or Craigslist. Verify the receiver ID with the Access Card Department at 877-887-7994. I bought by owned HR44 for $100. Love it and the fact that it didnt start a new 2 year agreement. In my opinion $100 was worth that for sure not to mention I own all my receivers and can sell any or all of them anytime I want.

from what I understand, there is no such thing as "owned" equipment anymore? I bought my HR-44 of ebay new, but from what I understand, all of these boxes nowadays remain D's property?

Hey guys, I am having a problem getting to anyone on the Directv side...I keep getting kicked to full ATT customer service. Not sure if it is due to me being a Uverse customer for internet and phone.

Regardless, it is like pulling teeth b/c they have no idea what they are doing right now.

    Any thoughts?

If you buy it brand new from someone, that is the case. If you buy from X-employees or bata testers, there are owned units out there. I own all the equipment on my account. No leased receivers for me.

Maybe try not confirming they have the right phone number to the automated system or something like that. I guess in a pinch you could call 877-887-7994 and ask them to transfer you to retention.

OT from the original point of the thread, but can you do this to have more than one genie on the account? or will they still only let you have one genie?
