That sounds a lot like a new ST subscriber promo. Anyone have more details on this? I didn't see it on their website.

They're supposed to provide the best offer to people that are renewing their subscriptions.

Edit: Ok, their second best offer. Brand new DTV subscribers get a better offer.

I called a couple of weeks to cancel ST (after having it since '98) because the price of it plus Superfan, as everyone else has said, is way too much. The CSR didn't appear to blink an eye - never asked me if I was sure, wanted to reconsider, offered any type of discount (SF for free, or a small credit, etc), nothing. I looked online, went to channel 107, etc, to confirm it was indeed canceled and everything seemed to be good, and although sad that we weren't going to have ST this year, happy to be saving some money.

We got something in the mail today indicating that we were still subscribed to it, so my wife called up to find out why were subscribed when I had already canceled. While on hold, there was a message that it was on sale for $249. When she finally got through, she confirmed that is was indeed canceled and that the flyer had been preprinted (or something like that). My wife told the CSR that if they through superfan in for free, we would pay the $249 for ST and keep it for this year. The CSR put her on hold for about 5 minutes, and came back and gave it to her!

I've told my wife that next year she's calling to get superfan for free, not me.

Just got off the phone with CS. Told the CSR that I am being charged for SF this year but have not in the past and that I would need to cancel ST all together if I had to pay for SF. After putting me on hold she came back and told me that I would see a $99 charge and then a $99 credit for SF. I just checked online and I have been given free SF. I was very polite but firm about canceling.

I hope others have the same luck.

I just canceled ST, as well. I was a 7 year ST customer with a flawless payment history and lots of other services, and was offered nothing to stay.

I could have afforded to stay, but I was miffed enough to drop for 3 reasons:

    1) Paying another $99 on top of the ST price when I already pay an HD service fee is an absurd pricing model.
    2) Stretching the ST payment plan out to 6 months is getting kinda' nuts. I end up paying for ST longer than the NFL season actually lasts.
    3) Some people getting the free SF, while others are just let go is ridiculous. Treat all to the same pricing, or don't offer discounts at all.

I'm kind of sad to have to see ST go since it was the sole reason I switched to D* from cable in the first place. But I don't think I'll miss it all that much, considering how many HD games are carried elsewhere for free. I really hope D* rethinks the way they price this package in the long run. The value just ain't there no more.

i was told last year that i wouldn't get super fan free 2 years in a row. i haven't even bothered to call yet. if that was noted in my account as the retention person told me it would, i probably don't have a rats butt chance of getting it free again.

They tell me that every year. I'm waiting for a while yet to call but I will get it for free. Just don't take no for an answer and be nice.

I was auto-renewed at $23.55 for 11 months for a total of $259, not $249 and no SF for free. This would be the 6th year I had ST and I am not sure I will keep it.

Called them to tell them I got a letter saying I get free Superfan if I renew Sunday Ticket. They said when Superfan renews it would automatically renew for free. Of course I didnt get the letter. But she noted in my account that I should get free Superfan with renewal so now when I get charged I'll call back to complain.

    Update:
I just called the number in this e-mail and got a free upgrade(again) for my owned HR-10. They will also relocate it, so I get to keep it. The number was picked up by a CSR, no menus or holds. Just asked what the upgrade was about and he looked in the computer to see if I could get it. After 3 minutes he came back to say the computer wouldn't let him do it but will ask a supervisor. Supervisor said OK. Installation 7/15.

No threats or anything. Like getting SF for 2 years. Only one legacy receiver left. It's time for an SWM.:D

    This. Every word.

I mean I know it's cliche to say you did it mostly on principal and I'm well aware a lot of you say "pfft..." when someone says it, but that's really the nut of it. Principal. Not economics.
