I just spoke to retentions and was only offered a $10 credit for 12 months. No ST promotions. I'm not on a contract. Will try back on Monday.

That's more than I got. They offered me $10 a month off the ST monthly payments.

Did you have to take a 1 year deal on this offer? If not, here is what you are going to do, 1) call back Monday, 2) say contract end date at start 3) when you get the person always ask how they are doing (butter them up) 4) just say I want do know if I was under contract and if not are there any deals I can get to stay on board.

Thats it. you'll get at least 25x12 for 1 year deal plus ST deals assuming at least 50% off, maybe even more. There is 2 year deals too but unless you need new equipment, I would pass on those. Good luck.

Also some people refuse to enter another 1 year contract but my point is this, where are you going in a year? If you know you'll have DTV service, you might as well play 1 year contracts to keep your bill down 25, otherwise, next summer sure you have no contract but guess what? Mine is ending and I have another reason to call. Plus I saved 25x12 already. Be smart people. 2 year deals are another story. No way.

I spoke with retentions earlier today. Note, I used the phrase "what is my contract end date" to go directly to the retention department.

I always take the route of saying how much I enjoy being a D* customer (which is the truth), but would appreciate anything they can do to help with having the elevated bills this time of year. I throw in a blurb about helping me justify the cost with the wife. If they balk, I just do a song 'n dance about hopefully being a valued customer with 15 years of their service, never a late payment, and my large commitment to D*, etc.

Received NFL ST Max for 50% off in 4 payments.
Also received $10 off for 12 months.
I asked for any freebies for movie channels and was offered Playboy TV free for 3 months ... "just the articles."

Last year I received NFL ST Max for free, but I thought this year's offer was more than fair, so I'm ready for the season. GO EAGLES!

Made my annual call today. Contract end date at prompt. Said I noticed I was set to auto-renew when paying my latest bill, and got sticker shock. Are there any special offers or do I need to cancel ST? CSR asked if I used some of the MAX features, I said no. She said if you downgrade to regular ST it's only $240. I said that was still too high. She asked if she could remove ST off my account to see what other offers were available and came back with half off Max ($164). I accepted the offer.

I've had ST for 10 years now, and deals have run the gamut from free to $90 to almost full price. She also offered $5 off a month for auto-bill pay, good thing I removed it when the last promotion expired.

Called using the expiration date request, got a nice talkative guy who put me on hold & had a mgr put the standard sunday ticket on my acct for free. A buddy who's been with them for a small fraction of the time we have, got it complimentary earlier. Thank you forum & directv.

Select choice pkg & with directv since 1996.

Just got off the phone with retention. I very nicely explained that for the past few years I've had Red Zone channel added to my account. Explained that I would like it again this year and was willing to pay. CSR said I don't see any reason why you should have to pay and added it to my account again this year. Very quick and no issues.

A retention CSR gave you Playboy TV free for 3 months? Seriously? I just find it odd that there would be any Playboy TV freebie. Anyone else ever get a Playboy TV freebie from a CSR?

3rd call was the charm (had cancelled ST on my 2nd call a week ago). For a 1-year commit and paying ST lump sum:

    $100 VISA card
    $10x12 off
    $5x24 off
    $40 one-time credit
    Free Upgrade MAX

So basically $140 to the plus side.

Talked to retention yesterday for my annual call and the fact that I'm getting Comcast for internet and phone this week and know they have good deals. I explained this to the nice CSR and she offered me $10 off bill for 12 months, $5 off bill for 24 months, ST for free (previously only had free Red Zone) and a $100 VISA gift card. Very happy with the offer as I have been a customer for 14 years.

From what I have heard generally they have the offer available (Playboy free for 3 mos.) but you have to ask for it as they usually don't just offer it outright to people, I guess they feel some folks might be well....you get the idea  [Of course you also can't already be a subscriber to be eligible for the offer.]

Also there is a banner ad on the DirecTV site in the 'Adult' section:
    PBTV free for 3 months.PNG

I did dig up a few previous threads where members have mentioned receiving it free:

So I've bee with DTV since Oct 2009. Not a huge time compared to some I know. I've had Sunday Ticket every year and will admit I've only paid for it once, and even then it might have been at 50% or more off. I'd have to go back and check my posts from previous years. I am under contract I believe for one more year due to a Genie upgrade last year.

So I made the call just now (no really, just now) and asked about when does my contract end. The lady who answered said she was in customer resolutions department. I was nice and flat out asked about any deals for the Sunday Ticket package. She looked and came back to me with ST at $39 for six months or Max at $49 for six months. That was it. Full price. I almost laughed at her and asked if she had anything else for longtime subscriber. She put me on hold and came back with $10 off for 12 months. That was it. Nothing else. I asked if she was in the retentions department and she paused, then said yes and that she was a supervisor also. I politely told her no to offer and that I would look at my local cable company as they have been trying hard to get me to join them. This didn't phase her and she told me to wait as she put comments on my account, then read to me what she wrote and said goodbye.

Guess I will try later. Honestly I only need ST for 1 game per week, the rest of the Sunday I just watch the Red Zone channel.

Yeah, I specifically asked for any freebies for a movie channel. She asked what movie channel would be my preference and I said Cinema or HBO. She looked, said nothing was currently available, but then brought up Playboy free for 3 months. I had to chuckle as it was the last thing I was thinking at that moment. :)

You paid half price once the past five years and you're balking? Come on man. People like you are what could possibly bring an end to the deals and credits DirecTV offers. Nice.

So what you are saying no one should ever try to save money? Or just try every few years?

And where in my post was I "balking"? I was just stating what happened on my call to help others when they call. Isn't that the point of this thread?

I'm not saying that at all. Your post came across as greedy as you laughed at paying full price this time.

Just called in, at prompt said "cancel service", when I got to a rep I asked about contract end date which was 9/1/15. He wondered if there was a reason I wanted to know the contract end date, to which I replied i'm looking at cutting costs and a lot of the promos will expire in the next couple months (from last year's sunday ticket negotiations).

He quickly offered MAX at half price, paid in either 4 installments of $40 or lump sum of $160. He also offered $10/off for 12 months, $10/off sports pack for 6 months, and 4 months of free Shotime without the need to call in to cancel that after 4 months.

I accepted, net cost of the ticker is -$16, and remain a happy and loyal customer.
